What a fabulous shirt you have there, miss Navane!
is my favourite ^_^
I'm gonna get another one like it soon only white and short sleeved cuz a friend of mine had it but is getting a sex change so i get his girly clothes
Re: The Salacious Thread
Brilliant! The one you're wearing looks possibly velvet, is this new one to be the same (and am I right about the velvet?) or, perhaps some type of linen..?

Did that sentence not confuse anyone else? If HE is getting a sex change, wouldn't that make him a girl, in which case he would want to keep the girly clothes? Or is she currently a girl and you're prematurely switching to he, since she will soon be a he? I don't have a problem with any of it, just curious about the sentence. Made my eyes cross a little.

I will admit I have the benefit of being somewhat active in the queer community for a portion of my life, but I believe she phrased that correctly. Generally, you want to refer to someone by their gender, and not their physical sex, so, I assume that Katarina is using the preferred pronouns of someone who is female-to-male transgendered.
Also, we best be careful, as this is a topic that could turn into politics a bit too fast.
Re: The Salacious Thread
I meant no offense. I have no experience in these areas, jsut didnt know how to take the sentence.

Re: The Salacious Thread
I must admit to the same grammatical confusion as Mr Von Hart, I have met quite a few individuals who were wishing to/undergoing/have undertaken gender-reassignment through my work. Its very easy when their appearence matches the gender and sex but at other times this can be very awkward, to avoid embarassement it was suggested to ask "how do you wish to be addressed or reffered to now and in future and if this is to change, when would you like that to be?" and this has lead to similar grammatical convolusions and apparent non sequiteurs, but avoided embarrasement to all concerned.

Ever an excellent idea, sirs, madams, and otherwise; most assuredly so.
Re: The Salacious Thread
It's been said that the greatest shortcoming of the English language is its lack of verb tenses suitable to time travel. I suspect its second-greatest shortcoming might be the lack of unambiguous transgendered pronouns.

He is currently biologically female but prefers to be called he, and I am all too happy to comply. The name change is less difficult to get used to--used to be Leah, is now Liam, but everyone just calls him by his (thankfully gender neutral) nickname "Sock".

And when they are part of a poly community...
My late-70-year-old mother handled it in the best way I've seen. I learnt all the 'correct' use of pronouns which you get being part of the queer community, but when it came to some christmas house guests from the US last year (all of whom I only knew online prior to that) and one of the introductions went, "[transgendered M-to-F] who is the primary partner of the secondary partner of my ex's primary partner" and Mum just said, "What is your name, dear ?" and that was that, since her name is her main identity.

Re: The Salacious Thread
And now I present: the corseted waistcoat. Sort of. Straps, instead of a full back, because...well...In all honesty I'm a very lazy seamstress. Original idea belongs to our very own Professor George of Chaos! It started out as a corset gone wrong, and as I was consigning myself to having another waist cincher I realized it was a perfect time to implement the Professor's idea. The only bad thing I have to say about it is is that it rides up quite a bit (due to lack of boning) and is a bit tight right around the underbust, but I think I can fix both problems, if my sewing machine had not just decided to die on me, literally in the middle of one of the back straps. So what you see is held partly together with pins. Also, apologies for the non-period clothing. I was in a rush.
Full shot. I cropped my head out because I was making a truly hideous face at my sister, who was taking the picture.
Close in on the front details. You can see how one button hole is just ripped to hell.
Back detail. An actual decent mirror shot I'd say, for all its crooked.

Well this is most likely the closest I will ever get to wearing a commercial halloween out fir but when I saw the poor thing at work I knew I had to save it. I call it Dr Steel A glow glow. (The wig glows in the dark and the whole thing is very black light reactive. I will post pics of it glowing if I can manage it.)

I could lose my membership! I've got some catching up to do.
Ladies, you look positively edible.

Thank you for the complement BaronPablo. I got some very good shots which I will post in the morning. I am completely exausted from derby pratice and the girls at the rink loved it.
I am back with silly pictures of mad scientist day at work.
I don't think this is such a good idea.

Re: The Salacious Thread
What does one do with a new memory card for the camera and a house full of Halloween decorations? Well, I thought it was time for some darker steampunk photos.

Did I mention I found the Ark of the Covenant? I probably shouldn't have opened it though...
