The limerick thread

Post  Dr Quack on Tue Oct 07, 2008 2:26 am

When one's usual outlet's denied,
Alternatives ought to be tried.
But in trying to rhyme Goggles
I've already used "boggles"
But at the moment, that, the point, is beside.

So, I hope that you'll not be too miffed
If to "Spare Goggles" now that I shift.
For to post a po-em
Even if it's "pro temp"
Don't examine it's teeth, It's a gift.

An attempt at a corset gone wrong,
Paired with suggestions from a steamy john.
"A waistcoat cum corset would,
"On thee look quite good,"
A brilliant idea, so I'll go along.

My previous lim'ricks, I say,
Compared to the a-bove were they,
Well made with meter and rhyme,
But now I haven't the time,
To come up with a proper cliche.

And from the previous limerick thread (slightly altered):

A genre in which they have dreamed,
Of a world where they call you 'old bean'.
A world of brass goggles,
And Home Depot boondoggles,
How would sir like his punk?
STEAMED.

Credit to whomsoever on these threads (Herr Doktor, I believe,) came up with the final line of the final limerick.

When one is laid low by severe influenza.
One has time to compose the odd cadenza.
So, in between sneezes
I come up with new wheezes.
But unfortunately no rhymes for the last line.

And I was about to complain! Wink

I'll have to dig out that banner...

In the meanwhile:

Steampunk, it seems, is ascendant,
It's old fashioned future resplendant,
Some people ask "Why?
All fads will DIE!"
I look forward to Steampunk's descendants!

Re: The limerick thread

It seems we're in need of a thread
to discuss whether steampunk is dead.
But, please be appeased
We're not yet deceased
It's just early, we're not out of bed.

Sure, there has been a feature or two
proclaiming our time it is through.
But they're only attacks
by some cynical hacks
with nothing much better to do.

So our posts we'll continue to jot.
from our minds all diversions we'll blot
And when idiots say
that steampunks had its day
We shall answer "Oh, really? So what!!"

Not too offensive I hope pirat
Sadly I can't claim credit:

There was once a man of Madrass
Whose balls were both made of brass
In thundery weather
they both clanged together
and sparks shot out of his arse.

There was once a man of leads
who swallowed a packet of seeds
a long blade of grass
grew out of his arse
and his balls were covered in weeds.

There was an old antiquartian called Tumbles
Who resided in the town of Mumbles
While he was digging
He enjoyed hard-core figging Shocked
Now all he can do now is stumble.

While in the centre of the earth
I meet a old dear from Perth
With silver spangles
and Non-Euclidean angles
My god...what a Cthulhuest girth!

I once met a fellow from Thackard,
whose runabout was totally knackered.
I popped open the bonnet,
and worked wonders upon it,
But then into a chestnut he thwackered...

I once knew a fine belly dancer;
for every question, she had an answer
I asked her once more
Same's I asked her before,
Yeah, you guessed lt, she gave the same answer Wink
