From Germany, no matter which computer/laptop/phone and which browser, I get a connection timeout.

Same. Accessing from Spain and I've tried in Safari and Chrome.

I cobntacted some BG members via email.
The admins/sysops do not seem to be aware of the problem.

We have opened the Never Was Lounge! A new community for alternate history, retro-futurism and science fiction. Welcoming any and all Brass Goggles refugees!

I hope BG will react as there are some threads that are unique to BG.

Are you able to try connecting through a VPN? It's peculiar that the site would be inaccessible from some areas and not from others.

I have no vpn, so cannot try that.

Still the connection gets timed out so there seems to be a routing problem.

morozow from Russia has had problems too. Seems a VPN.......... free, stolen or paid for could be a temporary solution until Proteus can be rattled to sort this out, Don't give up!

I'm not sure that what is happening to you is the same thing though. We hadn't any issues on this side of the pond...

Here's an article from TechRadar on the best free VPNs, as of a few days ago.

The gist of a VPN is this: You install a VPN client on your desktop, laptop or mobile device. When active, the client intercepts your Internet traffic, encrypts it, and routes it to the VPN's nearest endpoint server, which then tunnels the traffic to an endpoint which is geographically much closer to your destination server.

This can be used to bypass both geographic content restrictions ("This content is not available in your area.") and Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) by making you appear to be close to the server you are attempting to contact; in the latter case, the CDN is fooled into thinking you are closer to the origin server than to any of the mirror servers, and so allows the request through instead of intercepting it.
