Life is so bleak with BG down. I'll certainly toss in a few bucks next time there's an opportunity. This downtime proves how important it is.

Re: Please let it just be me...
Apparently it's a new problem, the whole outage one is done, it's something else now, the team are 'on it', so to say.
Re: Please let it just be me...
I'll toss in $20 if it would help solve the problem.. (sorry, can't spare more at the moment)

Re: Please let it just be me...
Talking of money, which as gentlemen we really shouldn't do, I suppose someone did remember to put a shilling in the meter?

Blast! And it was my turn! I had the shilling all ready (with a hole drilled in it and a piece of string attached), oh well, just have to make some ice ones again instead...
Re: Please let it just be me...
I am beginning to doubt the veracity of the notice stating "we should be back online in just a few minutes!" Call me a skeptic.

I would ask if anyone has any antiskeptic ointment right now, but I am afraid the pun would be in bad taste...

Just going to be one of those days.:

edit: Ahh good. Was just a quick little error.

Waaaah!
Right, Rockula and his Doppelganger are off for some ale quaffing at the pagan gathering that is Witchfest.
We'll see if some of the girls can't caste a spell to get a better server.

Re: Please let it just be me...
I think maybe it's time we all considered contributing to the cost of our own server (which we own 100% and are responsible for upkeep etc.), and placing our own hardware in one of the many establishments that provide hosting services for privatley owned servers.
It's not as frightening or expensive as it sounds, a fairly generic modern PC is MORE than capable of our hosting needs, and won't break the bank either. We could have our own dedicated server hardware for a few hundred Dollars / Pounds, and all the host will be responsible for is providing a network connection, and the occasional hard reboot when needed. This means we can plan our own downtimes, and hardware maintainance if and when needed. Hardware and software fixes / upgrades can be done via the hosting company for a standard fee (but with enough storage and RAM, this should'nt be required for some time, most software should be doable over the network connection remotely). The daily running of the server would be pretty much just as it is now for HAC, Proteus etc.
It's something to think about anyway. I would be willing to contribute money or hardware to the server side of things, if others are willing to do the same. A basic Linux box, and we are sorted.

Re: Please let it just be me...
Down again..
I second the idea of independent hosting.. I'll pledge 20 euros/pounds/dollars to the cause, maybe more if I can find some spare change.. someone more knowledgeable could probably find out how much we'd need in terms of start-up costs and annual fees. Once we have an estimate, we can see how much interest there is in the community to step up and help our beloved forums. Once sufficient people say 'aye', just launch a ChipIn widget: http://www.chipin.com/ and we're good to go..
