The Spare model-building thread
As James´model building thread on BG is not accessible, here is the replacement:
Had good weather today so my 5" gauge class 132 went out for a few laps.
Recently completed the cab interior details (driving desks, seats, driver, even a scale multimeter on the desk):
2.13m long, all axles driven.
Power? Well......enough!

I'm sure that could drag the garden away, given half a chance.

Re: The Spare model-building thread
I do not have enough wagons to form a train that would give her any kind of challenge.
Little daughter (4 years) also took the red giant for a few laps.
(I have installed a radio-controlled cut-off so I can switch off the loco and slam the brakes any time)

Lining out. I hate it. Settle back, there's a lot of this yet to come on this engine...

Re: The Spare model-building thread
Oh yes, painting is a horror to me too, pinstriping even more.
My Super Claud still has no pinstriping....
Have you ever tried the Beugler tool?
I have heard it would be good.
Work on the Tgpps wagon (four-wheeled twin-hopper grain wagon) has been restarted.
In the end it will be a rolling barbecue.
One hopper contains the charcoal, the other has the cooking grate and coal tub inside.
When the top is closed it looks like thw prototype.
This was a joke between a friend and me as we always had to carry a barbecue set to some open days.
The idea was to incorporate a barbecue set into a wagon, so here we go.

Re: The Spare model-building thread
I wasn't aware of the Beugler tool, I tend to do my lining in one of three ways:
1) Posca (or similar) paint pens- easy to use but they have a comparatively thick line and require either a rock-steady hand or a straight edge and a well-supported model.
2) Pen and paper- only recommended for straight line work where the raised nature of the lining piece won't stand out (eg, good for boiler bands). Really only works if you have two colours - eg, a white/black/white band- getting two or more pens lined up exactly (eg, for a red/white/black/white/red band) is damn-near impossible.
3) Proprietary lining transfers- good result but incredibly awkward to place in the correct position, plus each bit needs to be made up of several smaller lengths. Pressfix have a nice initial tack which is useful if placed correctly, methfix arguably have more ability to be moved around a bit when in roughly the right place.
This whole panel was done using transfers this evening and I think I got a good result out of it, even if it did take a little while and tax my eyesight and dexterity.

Re: The Spare model-building thread
For the boiler bands on O-gauge locos a bit of worn out clockwork spring is a good tool.
It is clipped onto the boiler and can be used as a straight edge for the bands.
