The Spare Goggles ATC Swap Group.
Welcome to the first (hopefully first of many) Spare Goggles ATC Swap.
first things first, some of you might not know what an ATC is, or may just want some things clearing up. An ATC is an Artist Trading Card, a miniature work of art measuring 2 1/2" by 3 1/2", that artists trade between themselves with the aim of collecting and gathering a whole art collection, but in miniature. They are only ever traded for another ATC or given as gifts, they are never sold for money, goods or services. Apart from these guidelines, they are as infinite and varied as any other art form. they can be paintings, collages, prints, made from wood, metal, fabric, paper... the only limits are your imagination.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artist_trading_cards
This swap will be conducted in a 3 phases.
phase 1 is the sign up phase, where a deadline will be given for interested people to agree their participation.
phase 2 is the making phase, where you will create enough ATCs to give one to every participant. these will then be posted to me before the given deadline.
phase 3 is the exciting part. i will package up the ATCs and post them to all participants so everyone will end up with a mini collection of ATCs. if there are 10 participants, you will each end up with 10 different ATCs, if there are 15 then you'll each get 15 different mini works of art and so on.
to cover some of the costs incurred by myself as the organiser (namely the p&p costs of sending you your collection of ATCs) a £3 / $5 entry fee will be charged to each participant. this payment can either be sent via paypal, or included as cash when you post your contribution of ATCs to me for distribution.
Rules:
1. The cards must be 2 1/2" by 3 1/2".
2. The cards must be made by you, with your chosen artist name (net name or real name) and a date on the reverse
3. Theme: there is no theme to this particular swap, the card can depict anything you wish, but bare in mind it will act as a representation of you as both person & artist.
Dates & Deadlines
Sign-ups for this swap will close on 10th October. anybody wishing to participate must make it known before midnight GMT on the 10th. this gives everyone a whole week to sign-up.
You will then have 20 days in which to create your masterpieces. Rather than tell people when their cards should reach me, i will say all cards must be handed over to your country's postal service on or before the 30th October.
As soon as all cards and fees are in my possession, i will distribute them immediately. even with the slow international postal systems, this should mean everyone will receive their collection of ATCs before the end of November.

Captzaphod: there is no theme for this particular swap, the ATC can be whatever you want it to be, steampunk or otherwise.
Gazongola: it can be a digital image if you want, as long as its printed and cut out at the correct size. normally people would embellish their printed ones with collagey type bits, but its entirely up to you

Re: The Spare Goggles ATC Swap Group.
Just confirming, we make how ever many cards to give one to each participant, and each one is different? So I could paint a different card for each participant..?

yes you make as many cards as there are participants. so if we take there being 11 participants as an example number, you make and send 11 cards, and you receive 11 cards in total.
the cards you make can either all be the same, or you can make them all different, or anywhere inbetween. you could make 2 runs of 5 identical cards and 1 individual card, or 7 and 4 etc.
once the deadline for sign-ups has hit, i'll send a PM to everyone just to confirm what needs doing next etc.

Although...if there are 11 participants, wouldn't you only make 10 cards, or do you give one to yourself...?
Actually, now that I think about it, that might be really stupid. I will shut up and make 11 (or however many )

hehe, that was some of the logistics i was playing around with. it worked out easier organisation wise if everyone ends up giving a card to themselves. that way i have to compile and send 11 identical packages, rather than 11 carefully organised and sorted individual packages.
it also means that everyone gets a 'full set' and has a card from every participant... i think its probably nicer that way

Re: The Spare Goggles ATC Swap Group.
just a little reminder...
you've only got just over a week to complete the atcs in and get them in the post
they need to be with your country's postal service no later than the 30th.

Mine are done (and to be honest were done even before I suggested doing a swap), just have to get 'em shipped.
