*tapes gelignite charge to underside of trap door, inserts fuse, lights it, crouches in corner of cellar under disused mattress*

ka-BOOOMMMM

*Trapdoor flips open*

*Climbs out*

Well, that takes care o' that! *sets gunnysack full of coal beside the fireplace.*

You might want to add a bit o' that, that wood won't last long...

*stares blankly*

*slightly shouting* Beg pardon? you will have to speak up, I suddenly
seem to be having problems with my hearing - and I have this terrible ringing in my ears!

AH! - Coal!! Excelent my good fellow, this wood won't last long you know!...

Hmmm, time for a drop fine brandy to keep the chills off I think! Stick it on my bar tab, Ta!

*due to still iffy hearing, spent several minutes pondering the gender of Auntie L and if the way to the brothel actually IS what was being asked...*

Ah!, that was a nice drop of brandy, now time for a cigar - and another brandy!

*notices a dodo with pork scratchings packet stuck on head* Ah, I see you seem to be having a little trouble there - Allow me... *pluck* There you go!

Cigar? *offers case to Dodo*

Where is that barkeep now!?

Well, this is a nice place! Dodos, and good company!

I'll have a nice chianti, and is there any liver on the menu?

Thanks.

Chicken livers ..excellent, just don't offer them to the smoking Dodo... He gets offaly excited by that sort of thing...in fact can someone throw a bucket of water over him... he always scorches his feathers with cigars...he normally smokes a pipe ...

*catches a wiff of burning feathers*

OOPS! I'll get it! *pours jug of water over dodo* Better sit you by the fire to dry off... *wanders over to fire with damp dodo* There go, and I'll be back with a brandy to warm you up.

*catches sight of a large dark object hanging in one corner of the ceiling* BY GOG! It looks like the caterpillar is still here - and he seems to have turned into a huge chrysalis ! I can tell it's him by the fact he's still smoking his shisha pipe!

Same again please barkeep, and a brandy for the damp Dodo, ta!

"Time does such strange things".

The Smoking Dodo - there's a name for a pub.

Think I will use that in my next novel.

<Enters the tavern and surveys the eight months worth of dust and cobwebs. Crosses to the bar and helps self to bottle of port & a packet of pork scratchings, (placing suitable coin in the till). Opens the packet and hands it to the still smoldering dodo. Sits in a comfortable chair and pours a large glassfull.>

"The Ki- er, umm... The Queen, long may she rain... er, reign."

Has anybody seen that guy who said he used to be Duke of Milan? He said something about fixing his staff and doing some diving for a book; I was going to see if he wanted some help setting up the expedition.

In the meanwhile, I think I'll have anoth... oh, right. On the tray. Thanks ever so!

Well, I'll just turn out the lights and close the door. I am sure all will be well here until it is needed again.

Oops - not all the lights. I see the, er, gentlemen at the chessboard are still at it. Don't seem to have moved much in months, but then chess is a game of patience, after all.

Good night.

It is a beautiful rendering. The participants even agreed not to eat/make a trophy of the artist.

I thought that was a rather nice thing for them to do, considering.

I am wondering if I should have bothered posting about the Bug-Out Bags. Nobody seems terribly interested. I thought we had run at least one end-of-the-world/emergency situations thread, but I couldn't find any with a standard search.

Ah, well. Another Belhaven's, Mr. Barkeep! And one for yourself, as well.

Cheers!

Always with the shoutings... please, not so much with the shoutings.

Hmmm... I think I will have an Old Engine Oil. Really should match the ambience of the place.
