Re: Eh? What's going on?
As announce via the @brasstech twitter account, there was supposed to be planned downtime today. It has gone on far too long, an incident has been opened, and I'm shopping for a new host.

Re: Eh? What's going on?
Site is back online for now. Host says "it should have come back automatically", as though I did not know that; that's why I'm upset, you yutz!. Sigh.

Re: Eh? What's going on?
Anybody else not getting BG to come up?
No, it's just me, or rather Firefox not letting me access it, AOL and IE are fine...

Re: Eh? What's going on?
Herr Doktor, I cannot get the site to load via Firefox either, or Internet Explorer(yech) for that matter. I fear the blog and forum has passed into the great beyond... though I certainly hope not.

Oh dear
Does this mean the entire database is lost? all the archives etc? Don't suppose you were using the cloud for any of it?

Oh-oh- don't let a slightly tongue in cheek comment ferment panic!
As far as anyone knows, the database is still extant, it hasn't gone anywhere!
We're all still very much in the dark, and as far as anyone knows, it'll all be back and in place soon.

If BG survives should we have a physical backup library?
Dear Ladies and Getlemen:
The current crisis underscores the need to preserve the database, but moreover, the fantastic plethora of Steampunk art, physical, aural, textual, etc. It would be a shame to lose the information permanently.
While perhaps impractical, the situation begs the question: should there be some sort of physical library (eg DVD data disks) in the form of a set collecting "The Best of Brassgoggles. Years 1885-1899," for example? Perhaps take advantage of the situation to immortalize our communities achievements? I for one would love a Brassgoggles Library...
The horrible thought ocurred to me that a catastrophe like this one could simply wipe out , not our community (I don't think that's possible), but the preponderance of our forum among other fora. I apologize if this sounds too conspiratorial, but I remain perplexed in regard to the date when this happened (my roleplaying babbling I wrote a couple of pages ago nonwithstanding).

I am also very worried about this, as it seems all too likely, if we are variously stranded with only small lifeboats like this one dotted about the place

Re: Eh? What's going on?
Hmm. It is an interesting point. Are we all but eggs, placed into the singular basket of the Brass Goggles Steampunk Forum?

Hmmm... Eggs? ... Are you edible? I am not edible.
But Wait, You See, I TOLD you we were experiencing an Appocolypse. I did.
Whilst This is a very nice temporary establishment, However, this place is most disconcerting and unfamiliar; this is not the BrassGoggles I expected in this timeandplacecontimum, and I fear that I am not comfortable with it.
Perhaps this is why yellow makes me sad.
I fear that I must resort to my "Useful Phrases for the Tourist":
I am happy to meet your clone, but This cannot be my forum because I cannot breathe ammonia. I will be most comfortable between the temperatures of 290 and 303 degrees Kelvin. That is not what room service means on Earth; Interstellar amity demands that we make some physical display at this point, but I beg to be excused.

AH My Dear MadUncle -
I find that if I Get Excited and then go make things that the excitement perturbs my brain and causes strange twitchy reactions and soon little bits of myself tend to stray into the moving machinery, leading to uncomfortable discussions in the infirmary requiring phrases from my tourist book such as:
Please do not let the atmosphere in (out) as I will be most uncomfortable.
My eating orifice is not at that end of my body; Placing the thermometer there will yield little or no useful information.
These limbs are not mine and My head is not interchangeable.

Re: Eh? What's going on?
I never even got a chance to check the BG site out, I am a relative newcomer to the genre and only just registered an account there on the 4th. I do hope someone sorts out whatever its issues are soon. :/

Alas, it's not back for me.
Perhaps it's taking time to propogate around the servers of the world.
Who knows...

Every passing moment in darkness felt like an eternity in the void... a dark and stormy oblivion. At long last, a gleam of light on the horizon? Brass Goggles! We are saved!
