(It's a bit hard to tell from this picture, due to the similarity of fabrics, but I'm wearing a red/black corset over a black/red cheongsam, and a black lace shawl over both.)
For the first panel or the second? I was up in the front of the line for the second.
Re: Okay, somebody had to do it...
Lucky you! This was for the Saturday panel. I also attended the Sunday panel in the Marriott, but that line was indoors. And I wasn't anywhere near the front either time; both times, I ended up about 3/4 of the way back in the room.

Re: Okay, somebody had to do it...
I wish I had that level of sewing skill, but no, I purchased it at Dragon*Con. I shopped around until I found the corsetiere who could sell me the best made corset for the lowest price, and I happened on one whose prices were more reasonable than any comparable ones I'd seen online. The "buttons" are actually the metal busk of the corset. The hook and pin closures of the busk (not sure if that's what they're really called or not) appear larger than they really are due to the flash reflecting off the metal.

Mine are like the straight ones on the left of the picture on this page, I believe. I tried linking directly to the image, but I couldn't get the picture to display.

Oh, that's excellent! Brain Flambe!
So the buttons are just flares from the photographic flash? Pity. They looked to be an unusual and pretty decorative element (though I think I do recall someone in the past posting pics of button covers on a corset busk...hmmm.)

yeah, for the sunday one we got there a few hours ahead of time. Had troubles because we weren't officially allowed to line up until an hour before it started (when the previous line went in).
Re: Okay, somebody had to do it...
Button covers do seem like an interesting way to dress up the busk, but most of the ones I've priced online have been prohibitively expensive. I remember a decade or so ago, I was able to get them quite inexpensively at Hancock's Fabrics, but all the branches near me have closed down.

Re: Okay, somebody had to do it...
Lady Penelope, I was very sad I missed both you and Steampunk Builder dressed up all Dragon Con. Alas and alack!
Speaking of Dragon*Con! Here's some pictures which don't really show my new outfit well. This was my late night steampunk pinup outfit. This picture is of me and Jenna (the cutest steampunk I've ever met) in the middle of our duel. I think we both won when we realized her gun was full of alcohol.
Oh, and on the last day of the convention, Brute Force let me wear the Abney Park wings
At a previous convention, me and my platonic lady-crush, Julie, dressed up as steampunk Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf. Julie made her amazing costume, and I made my costume.
Hopefully that wasn't too many pictures.

Great pics, Your Majesty! BTW, I'm pretty sure that Steampunk Builder has some D*Con pictures of you. If he hasn't sent them to you yet (or sent you a link to where he's uploaded them, if they're on his Flickr account), let me know and I'll pick his brain. Should be pretty easy to do, now that the top of it is partially exposed, though I might have to fight off that mouse first....

Re: Okay, somebody had to do it...
Miss Insanity, I love your Dragon Con pics! The outfits are wonderful! I appreciate the way you take a theme - Red Riding Hood, Pinup Girl - and come up with a steampunk version of it!
The "Wolf" costume in the bottom picture is absolutely brilliant! Kudos to your friend Julie!
Mr. Taylor - makeshift or not, the monocle adds certain flair to your look!

Here I be, dressed up for "Tea on the Lawn", a garden party held by my English Country Dance group last June ... which turned into a drunken ... ahem .... hootenanny. (Did you think I was going to say something else?)

So I decalared a steampunk day at work and everyone liked it so I think next thirsday will be mad scientist day. I allready have my eye on this poor short chef costume that could looked very much like a short girl verion of Doctor Steel with a bit of love and a buttonectomey

Re: Okay, somebody had to do it...
Not terribly steampunk, but I thought I'd post it -I've had a haircut (well on tuesday I did)
I've had long hair since I was about 12, so its the first time I've had it short in a while, although its not so much of a shock as I cut it into a bob after having it just beyond waist lenth at the beginning of the summer... Its a bit odd as it was meant to be a floppy haircut, but because my hair is so thick it stands up, despite having been substantially thinned
Its also been a bit of a suprise for everyone else as I only knew I was getting it cut 5 minuites beforehand...
PS. sorry about the photo -it was taken with my webcam in order to show a friend, but I thought I'd post it here too...

Re: Okay, somebody had to do it...
Oh blast. Now I suppose I'll have to sit for a portrait at some point in what little getup I have so far.
EDIT: It only just struck me that I am no longer in possession of my tailed coat! Disastrous. Hmm... Although I do still have my old vest... a tight fit, but...
(Note to self: lose fifty pounds by next week)

Not a steampunk picture, so to speak, but there's a suit jacket (steamish) and a Ramones shirt (the punk part) and my new axes!
