Re: I think this is it.
I did raise the question on BG's Facebook page about what the problem is and is anybody in a position to fix it and the response I got was that apparently 'it's not an issue this side of the pond' (I assume that's the US) and to 'use a VPN to access the forum'. I think it's fair to say that 1. it's affecting people no matter where and 2. using a VPN just to access one site (speaking personally) isn't going to happen.
So yes I think we will be here for the duration.

Re: I think this is it.
How strange.
I wasn't able to access Brass Goggles for a long time when I lived in Spain, and another Spanish member had the same issue. Then when I moved back to the Netherlands I could access the forum again -- but now it's down here too.
Of course, requiring people to jump through hoops like using a VPN just to access your website is ridiculous.

Re: I think this is it.
I'll remind people again the Never Was Lounge also exists, and has been online without interruption since 2008, predating even Brass Goggles. It would amazing to breathe some new life into the place!
Re: I think this is it.
I don't get it, we have people from US, Canada, Aus', UK and Europe, all can't get access, so I really don't see how a VPN could help to solve the problem of a site that is obviously down. Are they on Farcebook actually seeing the forum, if so from what Country?James Harrison wrote:I did raise the question on BG's Facebook page about what the problem is and is anybody in a position to fix it and the response I got was that apparently 'it's not an issue this side of the pond' (I assume that's the US) and to 'use a VPN to access the forum'. I can confirm that trying to access using a VPN is as ineffectual as not using a VPN.

Is BG under Denial of Service Attack?
Has anybody considered this could be a Denial of Service Attack (DoS)?

I suspect that if it was a DoS, we would have partially got on every now and then.
There is the possibility that the server hardware is damaged. I have no idea who hosts BG, but I doubt that we have an exclusive access to the hardware, so something would be spotted eventually by someone else if that was so.
This makes me strongly suspect that it is a problem with the BG account or software. The memory issue previously suggested by someone is a possibility, something that will gradually grow overtime.

Well, I can't say I was super regular there towards the end, but I did log in from time to time just to check up on things and people. Shame, really. Ah well, all good things, to every season, etc., etc..

Re: I think this is it.
Aye well, even though I am a rare voice. I am glad that this place had been set up and kept tidy 'just in case.'
It just seems 'just in case' this time is, unfortunately, a rather lot longer than it usually is.

Re: I think this is it.
Yesterday I tried to reload BG (and then went to sleep for a few hours) and eventually got a cached page from December 26, sans CSS. This suggests to me that the server is trying to respond, but something's gone haywire with the Forum software or with the caching software in front of it.

I guess the place still seemed so lively that none of us realised it was being helmed by ghosts.
At least the rest of us are here.

Re: I think this is it.
I had gone under the idea that all the underpinnings were being tended to rather than the engine room being completely empty.
Here's hoping she can be gotten off the rocks and back into the air.
Been there since 07. Community I'd been part of the longest. Would be a shame to see her go like this.

Likewise, I think I was '08 when I first made account. I've poured many thousands of words into stories posted there and it's entirely the place I cut my teeth as a writer.
If nothing else I want to Wayback the Portrayal stuff I wrote so that it can be saved and archived somewhere.
