Re: Down again?
Yes quite a few interesting posts here as well if you'll poke around a bit for them. Glad to see most of you alive and well still. Stiff upper lip and all that.

Re: Down again?
*sigh*...
Have they tried whacking it a really good one with a huge spanner or maybe a rather large sledgehammer?
I sneezed really hard last night. I hope that wasn't what kicked it offline...

Re: Down again?
Today is not a good day for me - first BG is offline again, then my computer PSU blows up (literally - and it was an expensive one aswell!), I can't get out to the shop to buy a replacement, this means that my VOIP house phone and my security cameras are all down too. GRRR!
And to top it all off I'm having to use my 7" netbook for ALL internet access due to the fact that my three other replacement computers have craped out too (mix of old age and dodgy power supplies). The keyboard on this netbook is taking a little getting used to, mainly due to the different key placements, the size is OK for most things (not shure I want to write a long document on it though...).
BAH!

Re: Down again?
just blame the weather. It´s what everyone in Britain is currently doing. The undergrads had their exams cancelled and their essays extended, while we poor postgrads are deemed old enough to man up and deal with it and got nothing of the sort -.-

Re: Down again?
Why don't they move the forum over to the host for Sparegoggles? It seems stable enough! Or is there are sparesparegoggles forum around somewhere that I've not found yet? haha!

Re: Down again?
Well My house computer is now running again, and that required me to build a working ATX power supply from two very under powered, and slightly questionable quality ATX PSUs from my junk pile. Two ATX PSUs welded together in parallel to provide 500Watts (roughly) output, both acting as a single dual rail PSU.
And that was still quicker than BG takes to recover....
If this outage was caused by our host messing with settings / updates again, I'm going to hire a hit-man to find that damn technician.....
Thank Cog it's back anyway!

{{ Timeouts on December 11 }}
Anybody experiencing timeouts today? I got to post just a couple of hours ago, but now I can't view the site or log in as it just times out...
By the way, reports about malware messages reported by the Google Chrome browser have turned out (at least for me) to be a virus attached to a png image file, according to my antivirus engine, so Chrome may not be lying after all. I hope this is not related.

Re: Down again?
This is getting beyond an irritation for me now. I'm beginning to see the merit behind the idea of having our own server.

Re: Down again?
There we go again..
For some reason though, I am doubting the outages are related to heavy traffic on the forum. It could just be me, but I think the forum was much more active about a year or so ago, and it ran fine back then.. have the stats really jumped up that much since then?

Re: Down again?
I think we really do need our own sever and I also think if everyone chips in it wouldn't be too bad. I mean I would be willing to toss in a chunk of change to get us running smoothly again.

Interestingly I typed 'servers' into google and the first place I came across selling them had a price range from ~£200 up to ~£2000, with options of leasing the larger more expensive ones instead of outright buying them. Certainly worth considering in my opinion.
