I made a hat! (now with 2nd hat)
I have never worn a hat like this let alone make one but make one I did!
AND...
I made this contraption tonight and attached it to one of my top hats. I also made a new band for it so it matches my stripey dress.

Would be described as a "fascinator"?

Not sure. I covered the thing in black velvet, added trim, roses and feathers. There is actually a hat under all the foof and I was under the impression that fascinators were basically just foof. I could be wrong.

Re: I made a hat! (now with 2nd hat)
Sorry - I speak as one who has little knowlage of the complex world of hat making (which is why I asked the question, it easy for us men - Tilley hat in the sun, oilskin hat in the rain, wooley hat in the cold!).
Whatever the name it is an admirable headpeice and a worthy adornment.
(A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet etc)

EEE! Hooray for foof!
You realize, I can't/don't wear foof well. So I vicariously enjoy foof through you. You're my hero!

Ooh, that's pretty! I am curious about the process of covering the hat base (it's hard to see through the foof, but I assume you were working off a hat form and covered it with some type of fabric?).
I recently covered a top hat form with fabric, and it was quite a pain...took nearly all day! Was there much sewing involved with your hat, or did you use glue?
How does it stay on - combs, hat pin, or some other method?
Beautiful, beautiful work as always, Lilibat!

Oh, that's quite nice, Lilibat! I wish I had one; it would match the outfit I'm wearing today. Must go hat supply shopping....

I used a cheap halloween foam tricorn hat. Took the brim off the crown. I covered both with velvet, reattached them, added trim and put on the foof.

Are you sure that's a tricorn? From the Amazon picture it looks rather like a round hat or bicorn.
Also, I adore your hat, it's lovely!

It was a tricorn after a fashion till I recovered it and reshaped it, yeah.

I agree, quite a nice creation, the word lollita comes to mind for some reason.

Re: I made a hat! (now with 2nd hat)
The photos on Amazon and the manufacturers websites are very unclear. They could be tricorns or bicorns. Why they think people would purchase a hat based on such unclear photos I don't know... Other angles would be nice.

10$ for a hat base with fast shipping I figured I could work with whatever it was.

Both hats are quite impressive! I may have to try my hand at millinery soon.
