just wanted to show off what I've done to my otherwise simple hat:

Copper roses ^_^

Does anyone know what to call this kind of hat? It must have a name...

You're right, it deserves a name. I'd suggest Arabella.... Laughing

No, seriously, I do quite like the ornamentation, even though I have no helpful input re: the style of hat. Smile

I really like those copper roses!

I wouldn't have the first idea about how to make them, but I saw some similar roses (of brass) on a candle holder/wall-hanging decoration from the 60's at a local thrift store. I must say I like the copper look much better. Did you make them yourself, & if so, may we have a tutorial?

You are extremely creative, Katarina!

I made them myself. It's really quite simple, once you have the copper foil. Copper foil is thin enough you can cut it with scissors. I just use a simple pattern for paper flowers and make it out of copper. They're held together with brads (minibrads (available in scrapbooking supply places) for the small ones).
I'm withholding any more detail than that on the grounds of trade secret, since I do sell these, but that's really enough to manage it if you really want to.

Beautiful, an excellent addition to the hat.

Oh, and the roses are nice as well Wink

Haha, but really, it's quite a nice hat in itself and the adornment of the roses just adds the little extra something to define it.

The hat is in the derby family. I don't know if it's the camera angle or not, but it seems a little 'short' to be a traditional derby, but otherwise that is the design.

Kudos for the roses, and I like the necklace as well!

That's what everyone's said "It's like a bowler, but smaller and more girly."

The necklace that's visible there is antique turquoise inherited from my great grandmother. She was a bit of a packrat with a penchant for shiny things so she had tons of jewelry in a huge range of quality. I've dismantled some of the costume jewelry for use in other things.
