Jailers'/Gaolers' Keys!

I’ve recently acquired a set of 5 jailers’ keys from a garage sale for 5 dollars. Needless to say, I’m thrilled. If you search online for these, you’ll only end up with replicas. From what I have gathered, individual keys of this size seem to fetch $75 each, or $150-$200 for a ring of them, which makes no sense. Everybody remembers what they look like, but genuine ones are rare. These are solid brass, and look like somewhat like this:

Except that the keyring they’re on is welded closed, and it is without the queer little hoop on top. They are quite heavy, and awesome.

Anyway, I want to wear them on a hook on a belt like a proper jailer, but I’ve a) got no belt suitable and b) cannot find a hook to attach them to it. Does anyone have any suggestions?


By the way, EVERY hit I got searching for ‘antique jailers keys’ gave me a reproduction. What the hell? And they were all made to look rusted. Brass doesn't rust! It turns green in spots, and tarnishes!

You probably want a clip with a chain something like a watchchain, but heavier.

I'd suggest trying a locksmith or someplace dealing in accessories for bikers or truckdrivers.

I know I've seen people around wearing something of the sort.

Failing that, try a hardware store for chain by the foot and various odds and ends that could be used as clips (S-hooks, for example).

Thank you, OldProfessorBear! I think you mean wallet chains, which would certainly work, but I really like your S hook suggestion.

This site has exactly what I'm looking for, for the purpose I intend, but I'm not paying $15 plus shipping for it. To the hardware store!
