New Hitchhikers Book!

Post  Captain Minty Gearhertz on Wed Sep 17, 2008 10:24 pm

http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today/newsid_7619000/7619708.stm

I think that explains it all.

I am wary, after all it isn't Adams himself.

Re: New Hitchhikers Book!

Post  Prof. George of Chaos on Thu Sep 18, 2008 4:20 pm

WHAT?!
I'll just read the article...I'll read it of course. It's going to have a(n at least slightly) different flavour. I guess reading the characters and thinking about them gives you a different understanding of them than thinking about them and writing them (then thinking more and writhing more, and...) but he just might do it. I know a couple of people who like Colfer's stuff. My own brother is reading him, and has been since he was at the age I found Hitchhiker's (I think). Since he's kept reading, and his taste is at least okay...Colfer might actually do a passable job.
Good luck to the man.

I shall repost on BG just as soon as the lightning strikes the rod, the boilers are steaming and pistons pump, reanimating it!
Until then i shall keep gathering information.

I simply can not think of a better author for the task.
If you have never read Artemis Foul I suggest you do so post haste!
Even if only to learn where Leprecons come from... (yes, that spelling was intentional Cool )

I'm afraid... pale

So very afraid... pale

Adams killed everyone in book 5, because he was tired of the story, and figured that if all were dead...except for me of course...that we wouldn't be pressured any more.

Will this author take away my second head too? Sad

Blimey.

As an avid Adams and Colfer fan, I dunno what to make of it... Colfer's brilliant, and if someone had to write them he'd do a great job, but... Will he be able to live up to Adams' work? Especially the intellectual side?

Werlll...I guess if it's not good enough it will just wind up being unofficially excized from cannon. Undoubtably there will be people in both camps whatever the quality, and however well the man matched Adams' writing-style.

Prepare for a cannon war!

(It's canon, one n.) Anyway, WHAT?! was my exact reaction when I read the forum title. Sorry but a CHILDREN'S AUTHOR writing an incredibly late teens/adult book. I mean fair enough, he is a writer, but is there any need? Mostly Harmless was so different from the rest anyway.

My overwhelmimg impression about "Mostly Harmless" was the publisher wanted him to write something and he used it as an excuse to kill off the characters (especially poor Fenchurch) so he could write wildlife books

The two N one is better though...I get to blow things up with two N's.
One N, typically becomes an ugly flame war.

Indeed. It is no more desireable to become canon fodder than to become cannon fodder.

I don't know, I'm sure I've met at least one or two people who were eager to be canonized.

Not to mention one or two who truely deserve to be cannonized?

I was "Pope"d at SalonCon.
I received a card to authorize this. It was like this:
THE BEARER OF THIS CARD
IS A GENUINE AND AUTHORIZED
~ POPE ~
So please Treat Him Right
GOOD FOREVER

Genuine and authorized by The House of Apostles of ERIS
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Every man, woman and child on this Earth is a genuine and authorized Pope
Reproduce and distribute these cards freely- POEE Head Temple, San Francisco

Okay...I do know that Eris is the Greek Goddess of Chaos, but, I still carry the card.

Cheers

Cannonized? Why, I know people who deserve entire broadsides!

Anyway - when I heard Adams passed on, the first thing I said was, "How's Dent gonna get out of it this time???"

I then thought it was a thoughtless question... but it turns out not. And it has an answer!
