I'll just read the article...I'll read it of course. It's going to have a(n at least slightly) different flavour. I guess reading the characters and thinking about them gives you a different understanding of them than thinking about them and writing them (then thinking more and writhing more, and...) but he just might do it. I know a couple of people who like Colfer's stuff. My own brother is reading him, and has been since he was at the age I found Hitchhiker's (I think). Since he's kept reading, and his taste is at least okay...Colfer might actually do a passable job.

As an avid Adams and Colfer fan, I dunno what to make of it... Colfer's brilliant, and if someone had to write them he'd do a great job, but... Will he be able to live up to Adams' work? Especially the intellectual side?

Werlll...I guess if it's not good enough it will just wind up being unofficially excized from cannon. Undoubtably there will be people in both camps whatever the quality, and however well the man matched Adams' writing-style.

(It's canon, one n.) Anyway, WHAT?! was my exact reaction when I read the forum title. Sorry but a CHILDREN'S AUTHOR writing an incredibly late teens/adult book. I mean fair enough, he is a writer, but is there any need? Mostly Harmless was so different from the rest anyway.

My overwhelmimg impression about "Mostly Harmless" was the publisher wanted him to write something and he used it as an excuse to kill off the characters (especially poor Fenchurch) so he could write wildlife books
