yep, same here. 14.47 GMT 03/09/21
About time Proteus handed over the reigns to von corax and hopefully this kinda sh*t will stop.
Almost a year since the call and no forward motion, getting slightly miffed with it all !!

Re: We seem to be down again
On another point, why make Stella Gaslight admin here?
She rarely visits BG, if at all these days, along with most other governers, so a bad choice for someone to be in the loop, owning the key to a lifeboat.
Change it to our von corax or another Mod who is active and on the pulse, some serious organising needs to be sorted, very soon methinks.

Correct,
I am often online on BG but have no knowledge required for an admin post.
So I am out.

Re: We seem to be down again
I suggest strip all current rights
The new regime should be........
I must apoligise if I typo here........ And I'm going on most active, both online and replying to posts.......
Von Corax.......... Admin
J W........... Governor
Madasasteamfish...........Global Mod
Rockula........... Global Mod
All the others are just not active and their presence in the list of people to go to and run the forum, is superfluous, quite honestly an insult to the valued volunteers that actually do the work, so it's down to four people...........

I'm getting 'Brass Goggles is online but is not responding to log in requests'.
I have no idea what that means or how we fix it.

Is Proteus still the Custodian of the Keys for the BG machinery spaces?- might we need to start thinking about hunkering down for a prolonged blackout?

Re: We seem to be down again
I wish I knew. I have not been available in the last couple of days to investigate. I'll do the usual and try to approach BG through proxies in the TOR network, to see what I get.

Re: We seem to be down again
Yawn....... Until new admin on both forums are appointed this will be an ever, ongoing event.
Scroll to top of the page, I think I've already said what needs to be said, it just has to be put into some kind of urgent action, if not, no more BG is a reality, it has been limping along for far too long (over a year?) and inactivity will be its final demise.
Has anyone actually have a way of contacting Proteus?

I think you know the answer to that question. But how can anyone do anything about that when we insist on being completely anonymous characters on the internet? Reaching someone who doesn't want to to be reached is impossible unless you want to do some serious detective work (as if we had the time to do that. Most of us are working stiffs). The only thing that bothers me is the resistance to finding a backup of the simple machines database, so something could be recovered, or alternatively finding a complete self-funded substitute forum.
The most obviously stable platform that we have is right in front of you. Needs no maintenance. It's always available. No one needs to pay for it. Problem solved. Caveat? "We could be spied on" by... "xyz"
Just lose the fear of the bogey-man spying on your nakey photos inside your computer. I think the main argument against Forumotion is that it can't handle too much data storage (am I wrong?)

Re: We seem to be down again
It's been down for three or four days. I'm a little concerned. In additional to it's social function, the forum serves as a very disorganized information archive. Some of it is archived on Wayback Machine, but they don't seem to have updated there archive in a few years, and you seem to need the URL to access their mirror.

Well, the topics I post often about (restoring/ refurbishing my Edwardian house and my toy trains) I also post about elsewhere:

It would be great though if BG were to come back...

I think Prof. Marvel knows more about the Wayback Machine than I do. I've never looked into it, I'm afraid.
If we had a most recent snapshot of the forum, we could use that as a starting point for another forum. You can always write links to your own posts to direct users to the old information.
I think a big brouhaha is the ownership of the domain name, and the name of the forum itself, besides the exact rules as to how it was meant to be hosted (no adverts). The last thing we need is a future fight with the forum's founders. But we have to be realistic about this. If the founders were interested, they would have contacted us already after Proteus initial warning that a new administration was needed.
Personally I'd push for the most independent solution possible. We can't depend on the past for survival.

I am literally afraid that rather than allow any change at all, the old pharts would rather see it fade away, along with themselves.

Re: We seem to be down again
Well, I'm not fading away, nor anyone else who's still participating. We'll continue being Steampunk as long as we're alive. What matters is our friendship. I wish I could be optimistic about saving the old database, but that's life. Perhaps we were carrying a lot of baggage. Most older threads had lost their pictures anyway, with all those image servers gone or changing their rules.
If you think about it, information is really all we are in the end. It's all you leave behind when you exit this plane of existence. And guess what? We all remember what we did when we were in Brassgoggles. If you can talk about yourself and the things you like, and care to repost your pictures, we can restart our association anywhere.

If BG has in fact died a final death, then you can definitely count me in for contributions to a new and fresh forum, if it should come to that, then, consider me on board 100%.
