Re: BG down - domain expired
Right, there appears to be a new way in.
www.brassgoggles.org
I've just tried it and it's the old forum so usual name and password apply. You may get a warning about an untrusted connection which you need to ignore, do so at your own risk obviously, but it seems fine.
So, lets see if we can get some answers.

Re: BG down - domain expired
OK, I have heard back from Proteus :
So that explains part of the problem. Well at least we have the option to own it soon...
Sadly the brassgoggles.org link is no worky for me - still keeps redirecting to brassgoggles.co.uk. That will be the time lag for the DNS change to propagate, hopefullt it won't take long.
Actually, who can access BG via the .org link, and what are the DNS (doamain name servers) you are using?
@****** [me] it is, and I noticed. I don’t own the domain (it’s TinkerGirl’s), though.

Using Safari (reads hosts file) Brassgoggles.org will get you into the old forum.
Let me check in the Mozilla/Chrome/Opera group.

Re: BG down - domain expired
I can confirm it works with chrome + a developer tool to force hosts file lookup.

Yep. Yep. Sorry.
I apologize for not being immediately available to respond to the site being offline due to the domain expiration taking effect. Unfortunately, when TinkerGirl handed the keys to Brass Goggles over to me, she was not able to transfer control of the domain brassgoggles.co.uk -- probably because I'm not a UK person.
Years ago I registered brassgoggles.org and pointed it at the same server, where it would redirect to brassgoggles.co.uk; I've now removed the redirect, so brassgoggles.org should work as the main address for the forum. Note that this is essentially a change-of-address: the actual site hasn't moved, and is still running on the same server it has for the past few years. We haven't lost any data.
Domain changes like this are never perfectly smooth, so I do expect some small problems and bugs and will quash them as I can. I'll do my best to keep an eye on this.
I have reached out to TinkerGirl using the contact info I have, to ask her if she'd be willing to try to transfer brassgoggles.co.uk to someone in the UK if she can't give it to me, or to keep it but move it to a domain registrar account that I can log into so I can pay renewals and such.
This situation sucks, and I apologize for it, but I am doing my best to make it as painless as possible.

Re: BG down - domain expired
For those people who just are getting here from Facebook or Twitter, let me just re-iterate that the Brass Googles Steampunk Forum is now located at the domain brassgoggles.org. It is still a question mark whether we will be able to recover brassgoggles.co.uk, but please follow this thread below to continue reading on the progress of the sitiuation:

Re: BG down - domain expired
Is anybody doing anything about this? I think it's possible to get the domain back for the regular registration fee for a few more days, but at day 40, the big redemption charge applies.
