As per thread title, a thread for idle chitchat while the vet tries to zombify resuscitate the hamster that powers the server.

Not really. Pretty boring day. About as much fun as watching an egg fry in the Summer heat: http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/death-valley-national-park-visitors-stop-frying-eggs-213244274.html

I don't know about "Duckturken" which seems a physical impossibility to me, but it's close relatrive, the "Turducken" is fairly popular in this hemisphere...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turducken

And seems to have a longer history than just a 20th. C. nove;ty, apparently as it descends from the Ballotine family includin the "Royal Roast" and "Yorkshire Christmas pie"

Step by step recipe: http://homecooking.about.com/od/turkeyrecipes/ss/turduckensbs.htm

Indeed, I am well aware of the Turducken, which if memory serves also includes chicken, and it's horrrific cousin the Turbaconducken

http://bacontoday.com/turbaconducken-turducken-wrapped-in-bacon/

but I really want to know if it is possible to stuff a duck with a turkey.

I guess I will have to play with the laws of hysics some more, Schrödinger be damned.

What you need is a Frankenduck.  Several butterflied ducks are sewn together to make a larger Frankenduck.  Then you may stuff it with a turkey.

Ich muss sagen, das ist Frankenduckturken sehr lecker!

Simple - Just get the duck drunk and give the turkey viagra. Works every time! Laughing

Yeah I've got something to talk about. I'm seeing a lot more of the old (ish) school Brass Gogglers on Facebook, than I am on Brassgoggles these days. Now when I say old school, I mean many of the folks that were there when I joined, which I believe will be three years ago in September. Some of them were more recent members, others had been there long term, but still they do seem to have noticeably faded away.

Why is that do you think? Personally I don't feel it's somewhere I'm ever going to get bored of, no matter how slow or whatever it might get. And obviously there remain a few folks that have been there since the start. But a lot of them do seem to have just drifted off. I'm wondering if that's because maybe the nature of the place has changed a bit, or maybe they have. I don't know it's intriguing. I think a lot of them are still involved with Steampunk in some shape or form. But still for whatever reason, they don't seem to want to be involved with BG any more.

I realise this is the nature of forums to an extent, even though BG remains the main one I've been active on since I got the internet properly. But still it surprises me some of the folks who've just ... gone?

Yes it has been noticed by the BG admin, and we are working on plans to reverse the trend. That is all I can say at this stage...

One of the issues is that people tend to migrate to facebook as most of their online friends are there, thus they have no need of another internet portal such as a forum. Another related issue is that facebook works in a totally different way to a forum - nameley all things are in "bite size chunks", ie there are no multiple page threads on a topic. It has been indicated that those on facebook now find the BG forum to be a mess of too much info - basically TL;DR...  Unfortuately there is little we can do about this with the current forum software.

As it stands BG cannot compete with facebook in it's current form.

I don't use Facebook or Twitter and also consider that as a member of BG I am a bit of an individualist and the legions who use the aforementioned sites are going with the crowd. I appreciate the comment that BG has lots and lots of information which may be more difficult to find than that presented on Fb and Tw. I have never found BG to be boring!! Very Happy

Yes I would agree. Although I'm probably someone who's guilty of the occasional TL'DR type post myself. But in my defence I'm also very happy to read other peoples (and I've been known to do it on FB as well). To my mind It would be awful if BG posts were reduced to nothing but Tweets haha.

I personally find the biggest problem is the search engine. I've spent literally hours going through my or other folks old posts sometimes. Often because I vaguely recall something relevant to a current post that was said two years previously or something. Even if I remember the thread title exactly, the search function often won't turn it up, let alone work on relevant key words.

But apart from anything else I do look on BG as a very useful archive. And that is largely because so much information has been posted since it's inception, and often at great length.

Still I guess you do have to be a bit of a reader to appreciate it.

You always have the option to use Google and then specify a website or domain to search in.
This can sometime let you target what you're looking for more specifically Smile

Thanks, I'm afraid I'm still a bit n00by when it comes to certain internet functions, but that sounds like a good plan.

Well, it seems we are going to be here a while, so we might as well settle in. I've lit the fire, as you can probably tell by the bits of flaming newspaper floating past the windows - that chimney has a strong draft! - err, sorry about that...

Now then, can anyone see the key for the robot butler?... Anyone?....  Bugger.

Right I think we are ready to begin again - So, anyone got something to chat about?

I'll kick this off then.
Yesterday I created a set of new tenancy agreements (rental contracts) for an existing tenant (plus friend / partner), as they wanted to move into a bigger property of mine. They have been several times to view it, I told them to MAKE SURE they wanted to move, and they said they did.

So yesterday I popped round to get them to sign the new agreements, which they did. They paid the first month rent in advance as agreed, and I handed them the keys.

This morning I get a phone call. Guess what - yup, they don't want to move. Rolling Eyes

This is a rather inconvenient and late time to tell me now. There are a few problems to sort now too. For starters the tenancy agreement is legally binding, and they BOTH signed it. The other issue being that their old tenancy ceased to exist when they signed the new agreement. Then there is the various issues that will need to be sorted out, such as the utilities have not yet been switched over (and they have used power for 24 hours, and that's not in my name either, so the discrepency will need to be accounted for by someone - probably me...), they have changed the Council Tax (property tax of sorts) to the new address - which causes issues for ME to sort out and will likely cost me a months worth of tax to pay, they have cancelled their TV and phone, and arranged for them to be installed at the new place - so I can't even phone them at the moment.

I'm not a happy camper. Evil or Very Mad

And yes, they are still going to be tenants of mine - once I draw up a new set of agreements for their old / current place. A lot of other landlords would not be as tollerant, I can tell you.
