https://editthis.info/brass_goggles/Main_Page

This was started in 2008, primarily by those of the BG community who enjoyed writing their own steampunk literature. In recent years there has been little added to it but I have made some effort to add categories (https://editthis.info/brass_goggles/Special:Categories) and structure to it so it can function better as an information source with pages that are easier to relate to each other.

Be sure to follow the code of conduct though (https://editthis.info/brass_goggles/Code_of_conduct - this is open for further discussion). It is a wiki - you can add your own input - but be sure to recognise the creative efforts of others. Don't change literature characters or stories unless you created them or are collaborating with those who are. There is plenty of non-literature-specific elements that can also be added or expanded, like the page on goggles (https://editthis.info/brass_goggles/Goggles). These can include advice on how to design all sorts of steampunk paraphernalia, from a ray gun or a soot-proof parasol, to a space ship or a submersible.

Enjoy

Also a reminder that registration on the Wiki is independent of registration either here or at Brass Goggles, and that although anonymous editing of the Wiki is allowed, as a matter of courtesy it is expected that you register with the same username you use at BG.

I'll add my own plea for respecting others' entries. There used to be an extensive and well-organized section pertaining to the Steam London RP in the section pertaing to the Portrayal board, but somebody erased it (not me; I discovered The damage one horrific day when I was trying to look up a character for use in my Between the Threads project; this was, I think, about three years ago, maybe more. The Portrayal board was still seeing somewhat-regular RPs going on at the time). Imagine my immense horror upon realizing that a well-meaning helper had mistakenly erased most or all of the Steam London Section.  The storyline, the glossary of characters, all of it was gone. All that was left was a good-natured note from the person who apparently inadvertently erased it. I tried a rather abortive effort at restoring the Steam London storyline part (haven't done much or anything in more than two years; it all just kind of overwhelmed me), but it's nowhere near finished and nothing like as well-organized, well-written or coherently headed as the original was. I have little hope of recreating the Character Glossary; I simply do not have the spare time, and I have forgotten far more than I remember of how to write (code ?) the necessary passages or organize them. Not to mention that I've lost the link to the mirror site (though most of what I've already done was copied straight from the Steam London RP thread, which at that time and up until this latest shutdown was still on the Portrayal Board) from which I was getting (copying, pasting and reformatting) the storyline.

Others may have fixed the problem by now; I don't actually know. I also don't know if VAP (a massive and by far the greatest contributor to the work) or the section's originator (Capt. Mccannon, I believe, though I might be mistaken) are or were aware of the problem.

Please, Please, PLEASE be careful what you do, where you do it, and how. A careless mistake could do much more damage than just messing up the flow of an entry.

Turns out the glossary is either back, or I was mistaken about it's demise. in any case, all or most of it is now there where it belongs.

*whew!*

Hi everyone,

This wiki may have had good intents when first started but it was used more like a blog than a wiki. My changes in March this year tried to rectify this. I don't think anything has been removed this year, but some content might have been relocated to better pages.

Interestingly, I don't think there ever was a clear Code of Conduct page, so I made one, based on some comments on BG, the wiki and my own experience on running various other fan-based wikis.

Being a wiki, you can always look at previous versions of the pages. For instance, you can see what changes I made to the Main Page at https://editthis.info/brass_goggles/?title=Main_Page&diff=3571&oldid=3154 . Changes can also be undone, though this should really be an action that only moderators can do. At this stage I don't think many accounts are registered as Bureaucrat (i.e. moderator - https://editthis.info/brass_goggles/?title=Special:ListUsers&group=bureaucrat) or Administrator (i.e., system operator - https://editthis.info/brass_goggles/?title=Special:ListUsers&group=sysop). Certainly only mods and admins can delete a page - https://editthis.info/brass_goggles/Special:ListGroupRights.

So if you think you lost the content of a page, and have fair grounds for reverting the content, you can copy it from a previous version of the page - just look at the page's history.

Just remember that it is a wiki. People like me tidy up wikis, adding formatting, synchronising pages, combining or splitting the content, adding categories so related pages can be grouped. This is a never-ending information management task.

Yes, there is a glossary - https://editthis.info/brass_goggles/Glossary,_Including_Translations_Between_Various_Brands_of_English

MWBaaailey, I have created a Steam London category - https://editthis.info/brass_goggles/Category:Steam_London . I recommend you add [[category:Steam London]] to any character or story pages that relate to Steam London - cf. https://editthis.info/brass_goggles/?title=Special:WhatLinksHere/Steam_London&limit=100 . I also recommend that you use the power of the wiki to link from one page to another, using [[ ]] around the first occurrence on a page of the names of the characters, transport and locations, and anything else that may have an individual page.

You might also want to add something like [[category: HMAS Marigold]] to all the pages related to the Log of the HMAS Marigold - https://editthis.info/brass_goggles/1._The_Log_of_the_HMAS_Marigold . I can tidy up the category positioning/description in the schema of categories once it has been started.

Good gracious, I remember spending hours adding info to the wiki during https://editthis.info/brass_goggles/The_New_World RP.

It never quite achieved the lofty heights of Steam London, but looking back on it that game was vast. There was way more to it than I remember. I hope it's not gone for good, I'd love to try and reconstruct the story as a standalone one day (much like how some had discussed a novelisation of Steam London at one point).
