Nerf maverick help needed
I have purchased said toy/fire arm and now that myself and my good lady have finished chasing each other around the house with it, it is time to paint it. Could someone please suggest a paint that will stay to the plastic casing? Will a warhammer model style paint work?
Many Thanks,

I would suggest rubbing the gun casing down a little with a light grade of sandpaper. Creating a slightly roughened surface for the paint to key into will help greatly with the number of paints you can use to "upgrade" the weapon.

You're quite welcome!
One thing which I have noticed is that, while the "Warhammer" type of paint is excellent for block colours and for blending/dry brushing, the metallic shades tend to be less effect that oil based metallics, in my own opinion. Using an oil based paint for the "high" metallics, where you aren't relying on dry brushing for the effect, is worth considering as it gives a more solid metallic effect where as the "Warhammer" type tends to look moe glittery when applied as a block.

Check out the forums at http://nerfhaven.com for some excellent information on Nerf Guns, including how to paint them. Generally, we suggest using vinyl dye (such is used for changing the coloring of automobile interiors), as it actually changes the color of the plastic. This is a MUST for any parts that rub together, though for parts that are merely decorative, one can use warhammer or similar model paints. Just be sure to apply plenty of clear sealing coats, lest the model paints wear off easily.

also a good tip is to use a coat of primer on it. Also if you are going to have a solid base color use something like Krylon Fusion. it is made specially to stick to plastic.

AH... Painting metal coat.
Here's the way I do it. I would take the gun in question, give it a bath in dishsoap. Let it dry thoroughly. When it is finished drying, COMPLETELY, give it a buff with a dry paper towel. That's really all that's needed before painting.
Then... Give it a coat of black or dark gray primer. Let it dry completely, usually 2 days. Then give it a coat of GLOSS black. let it dry completely, usually 2 days. After it's completely dry, then give it a coat of silver, or whatever metallic color paint you like. The gloss black will be seen through the metal coat, and it will give your gun the depth of color making it look like metal.
After it's done, put a proper patina on it to weather it. I like to take either watered down rust, or some flat black that's watered down, and give it a wipe.
Hope that helps!

But bear in mind, all this talk of primer, and paint... Should still only be on the parts that do not actually have contact with other parts. The drum, the trigger, and slider, as well as the mainframe section where they each rub, should be colored with vinyl dye. Of course, this is really only if you plan on using the Mav as normal. If you are not, if this is just a show piece, then don't worry about it.
