We need membership kits.
Those would encourage people to join.
Like when you join the Kiss Army, you get:
T-shirt, membership card, dog tags, enamel pin, bumper sticker, guitar pic, temporary tattoo, and welcome letter from the band.
We could mix that up a bit, by getting rid of the dog tags, guitar pic, tattoo, and welcome letter from the band; and instead include a welcome letter from Old Professor Bear and ... ummm ... can't think of anything right now...but, you all get the point, I'm sure.

Of course, a welcome letter from Pheobsky, Our Founder®, would be more appropriate, though he only seems to have time to make brief cameos (quite understandably).
Thing is, amenerstraters get notificated when somebody quits, but not when somebody joins.
