Librivox - Audiobook goodness.
Doesn't exactly fit into writings.
Here is a site that is taking the gutenburg project writings and getting that read by real people into audiobook form, as opposed to the unwieldy tin-eared clockwork mechanism that gutenburg uses. The reading quality is of course a little variable, but generally OK.
The good new is that they have already transcribed much by H. Rider Haggard, H.G. Wells, and Jules Verne, Edgar Allen Poe, H.P. Lovecraft and many others.
The majority are public domain, (Y'see, there is an advantage in liking older literature), a few are PD only in the States so far.
