Now that I have finally set up a photobucket account, I have uploaded a few pics of the house. It's not the steamiest, though I have always tried decorating in dark woods and there are LOTS of wunderkammer things on the book cases and in drawers all over the place. The dinign room probably counts as the steamiest bit of the house, though brass bits are appearing with the dark wood in other parts of the house.

Here is the photobucket link:

There's a 4.5 litre barrel in a corner of the kitchen. Very Happy

I haven't taken any pics of the kitchen as it isn't very steamy (quite modern), but yes, I do go through the port a bit. If I had room I'd get another two barrels - muscat and red wine vinegar...

The local home brew shop sells barrels in various sizes, made from French oak (they're new, not recycled from old wine barrels). They start at 4.5 litres (an old imperial gallon) and go up to full-sized wine barrels at 250 litres. The small ones come with little brass taps and are designed for kitchen or domestic drinking. (The big ones are meant to be used for large scale fermenting of wines.)

I'll take a pic and post it up later. <Hic!>

Your shell and mineral collections are quite wonderful. I like the way you have displayed them. I have the same cabinet at home - unfortunately, it holds my sewing machine and spare rolls of toilet paper.

Thank you Mrs Sullivan!

The little writing desk thing was the original cabinet and I did start out using it as a writing desk, honest. The stuff jsut acumulated and then the writing bits and books moved out as the bits took over!

And now there's stuff on every shelf of every bookcase, window sills and the dedicated, cheap-o drawers I got and put in some spare cupboards for all the rocks and more shells, and more bits. Eeek!

No matter. When I die it's Someone Else's Problem! Very Happy

And thank you - your .sig reminds me that I need more Pimms. It got suddenly warm last weekend, very Spring-ish, and the last of the Pimms got drunk in anticipation of warmer weather!
