Well I thought I had better sign up here and say hi. So... Hi! Very Happy

Been wanting to get on here for a while. Hi to those who know me from BG forums and those who do not.

Currently in process of getting a little article put together about the art of a recent film involving some of the concept team involved in the project. Not saying which film yet as I don't want to spoil it. tongue Anyways that shall be up on Aether Emporium within next few weeks if things go well.

Ok I am off to bed.
Night night.

Crikey, there are a lot of us in the Brum/West Mids area. Could there be a link?

Maybe its the old industrial areas with a high population density, any survey of England would probably show clustering around Newcastle/North East, Manchester/Liverpool, Leeds/Bradford, Birmingham & London as thats where most of the population is.
(I would assume the other Home Nations of the UK would show an equivalent distribution.)
Or maybe I'm destroying some of the magic

I'm not so sure, normally the largest proportion of people within a subculture, particular genre or specialised interest linked via the internet seem to be in London, but there only seem to be a handful of people of people here based in the capitol. (Possibly because with things like the goth scene, people are drawn to London precisely because of the active scene/events whereas we are sadly lacking in Steampunk events).

People, go dust off the guitar in your parent's loft. Start making music! More bands mean more gigs = more opportunities to get dressed up and have a good ol' knees up with like minded people.

Back on topic, I'm only aware of a small number of people in Manchester/Liverpool, Leeds/Bradford etc, whereas there's at least 5 people in Worcestershire alone and at least a dozen in Brum & surrounding areas. But again, that may be because I'm simply more likely to take note of someone's location if they're close by.

hik that theres definitely I higher density of SP people in & around the black country than anywhere else in the UK... I think that theres also more goths per head of population here too- in London you see a few but nowhere near as many as Ive seen since moving to Brum (Camden & whatnot are excluded form this- I'm just considering my day to day amblings)

Pheobsky's suggested an impromtu Brum meet in Geographical, get your oar in and pick a date. I thought the plan was tea and cakes, anyway? Not that I'm objecting to visiting a Hostelry. Either's fine with me.)

yup, definitely a high goth, emo, metaller quotient here in brum. i think it comes from having 3 universities and being the general epicentre for a lot of smaller communities and towns to gravitate towards. This is the closest BIG city with a thriving nightlight/ alt scene for a lot of towns and cities in the midlands... even though it has no club nights or shops of any worth anymore Laughing

And it's not much use if you don't like Jazz. Goth clubs or clubnights ( that play a fair amount of actual goth as opposed to clickety beep cyber techno whatsit.. ) seem non existant in Brum. Which is why I so rarely go to clubs of any sort.

fair enough, I suppose I quite like Jazz & funk, so its a bit more apt for me Surprised I don't know of any goth clubs either, but I haven't been here too long so I'll listen out & perhaps there will be some word!

i went to the sunday flea a few years ago, and it was the worst excuse for a flea market i've ever seen. it was clothes i wouldn't even give to charity, marked up at ludicrously high prices, being sold by snobby art school students who thought they were starting some kind of revolution...

i mean, erm, i didn't enjoy it Razz

OK< last time, I promise.

Turns out on Friday 24th there's a http://www.theelectric.co.uk/booking/films.aspx showing on the Electric Cinema. The EC is also in association with Le Fee absinthe, served in a traditional absinth fountain. A trip there is in order at some point, I think. (Though I'll be giving the horor fest a miss, not my cup of tea.) There's also some old school vampire films showing on Halloween, but some of us will be in Whitby for that.

A quick browse through http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/GenerateContent?CONTENT_ITEM_ID=2663&CONTENT_ITEM_TYPE=0&MENU_ID=1762&EXPAND=161 reveal several potential itemsof interest: Aston AHll looks like a pleasant spot for a picic when it re-opens (and the weatehr warms up). The http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/GenerateContent?CONTENT_ITEM_ID=95424&CONTENT_ITEM_TYPE=0&MENU_ID=14654&EXPAND=161 is a defineite must at some point (I believe someone was praising it a while back on BG. Ooh, and the Transport museum... the list goes on.

For Saturday, might I suggest a visit to the http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/GenerateContent?CONTENT_ITEM_ID=2705&CONTENT_ITEM_TYPE=0&MENU_ID=1763&EXPAND=161. Looks interesting, and of course there's time for tea and cakes/beer/ tea and cakes and beer afterwards.
