Re: What horrid steampunk names would you saddle your children with?
I like the names Harthacanute, Harald, Bernicia, or old spellings of common(ish) names.

Well, my kids have steampunk names. If I were to give them horrid ones though it would have to be Francis for the boy and Prunella for the girl.

I didn't necessarily mean horrid names. In my opinion Mary, Susan, Margaret, and Jonathan are horrid names. I meant names your children will likely think horrid because there aren't eight others with the same name in thier school. What did you name your kids?
And I like Malachy a lot, but an I on the end of a boys name is never wise, it's the feminine ending. Elfine is a bit odd though.

Ha ha! I knew it didn't look right; that's Mr P spelling it that way. I shall have to gloat lovingly at him later.
Elfine is the sister of Seth in Cold Comfort Farm, thus when small unit #2 appeared it seemed logical, especially as she was born in a book case. Sadly Mr P got to choose her name so my other suggestion of Tabitha Mymble was rejected too. Bah.

Wha... just, what?? You mean, literally, not just as a metaphor for being an avid reader for her tender age?

My Son's name is Maxon, a form of Maximilian (meaning "The greatest") which was too long at 10 letters as his middle and last names are 7 and 8 letters long.
My Daughter's name is Florida, which means "To blossom or to bloom". Yes, whenever we go South it's easy for her to find stuff with her name on it but she was named for the meaning not the State.

I've always been fond of my grandma's name--Alma. However, I'll have to name someone else's kids, since I won't be exchanging my genetic material with anyone.

Re: What horrid steampunk names would you saddle your children with?
Thisevening I got to thinking about middle names.
Obviously there are the classics; Clement Danger Stephenson, Albrecht Trouble Hobbes...How much mileage can we get out of placing descriptive qualities in people's names?

Ah Ha, not in "The Remorseful Day"
Unless you're thinking of a different "Morse"

Personally, I've always thought that Ornery would make a fabulous middle name, particularly for certain members of my own family. >>;
Other than that, I'm rather partial to biblical names and those taken from some of my old history texts. Zipporah and Aethelred, for instance. Though my absolute favourite for a girl would definitely be Ealdgyth.

I have a particular like for the name Antimony for a girl.
As for a boy, Artemis is quite becoming, as is the simplicity of Jack.

I will never have a child as I utterly and thoroughly detest each and every one of them. But as a name suggestion for the male child of someone else, I fully endorse going the Salad Fingers route and calling the child....HUBERT CUMBERDALE.
