As one possibility out of a multitude of options, the purchase or construction of a suitable Gentleman's Steam Launch is something I am investigating. I have been having a bit of a "writer's block" over a suitably steamy name for the vessel, however. S.L. Titanic is right out, and I have a list of discards, but I can't seem to settle on something that I actually like.
So please, if you have an appropriate name that you might care to part with, suggest away!
Thanks ever so
Chas

Re: Accepting suggestions
Right now I have two candidates; one is an antique, a steel hull from the '40s and a century old engine. The other is a more modern build, in wood, with a Roberts boiler (225 psi working) and a new(ish) engine. I think, though the wooden launch is smaller, safety factors and the fact that it is trailerable are likely to convince me.
Perhaps the S.L. Admiral Heinlein would be the best choice. Dreadnought, Warspite, Boanerges, Thunderchild (bonus points for recognizing that last) are all suitable, but I am hoping for something extra special... Perhaps a Revenue Cutter name. Or... no, North Carolina Customs 1701 would be a little too much for the S.L. Enterprise - fun as it might seem, the joke would wear thin quickly.
Thanks again
Chas.

I like Thunderchild. But then surely you would need cannon.

Steam Launch Acker?
SL Stevenson (RL Stevenson's lesser known brother)?
The S.S. S.R.?
That's enough bad jokes for now.

Thanks for your interest... Gazongola, did I ever say that I wasn't planning to ship cannon? A.S.L. might be more accurate; when I get done converting, she will be an Armed Steam Launch. Subtle difference, I know.
Anybody got plans for a steam-powered potato launcher?

There were some preliminary designs for a steam-powered spud-cannon 'round the Institute a few years ago – we were hoping to fire baked potatoes with a melted-cheese payload for maximum destructive effect.
Sadly, all the prototypes would only fire mashed potatoes au gratÃn, which hasn't nearly the same stopping power...
