A continuation from the original

Mine was rather good flower
I finally sorted out my accommodation so I have somewhere to live when I move to Birmingham!
This is doubly good as I need to be living in Birmingham by next Sunday!
It is a most wonderful slightly run down Victorian house (but with more Georgian proportions X] ) & its only about £40 a week! But has a good vibe to it despite dilapidation (to be honest I've got quite a soft spot for dilapidated buildings, despite knowing how annoying they can be sunny )

Anyways Leaving home on saturday (possibly) & stating at the University of Birmingham on monday Very Happy

I find that yesterday was an incredibly enjoyable day indeed. I've had the pleasure in these past twenty-four hours of making a very strong new friend, and introducing said friend to a host of others via the expedience of the Portland Steampunk Tea this past evening. Also, the aforementioned tea was a very enjoyable experience, puncuated by the pleasure of meeting several more new friends, most of whom I look forward to seeing on Sunday at the Garden Party.

My good Lady and myself are just back from my sisters and her husbands house, they have just had their first child. He is a stunning little Boy called Daniel, and our first nephew. So my day was rather grand, although now Mrs Hawker wants a baby.

Super rainy and humid here. Work was very slow but people were surprisingly nice. I have some ideas for steampunk ball joint doll cothes and I found some pritty pattrered slik to make them. My poor dolls haven't had any new cloths since I stared cranking out steam punk stuff for my self. I miss the portrail board far to much. I need my daliy dose of Steam London.

How was your day thread (continued) Empty Plums!

Post  Mad Maxine Sun Sep 14, 2008 6:31 am

I just picked about 15 pounds of plums from the trees in my back yard. Most of them came from the smallest tree. Best crop in years, and I got to actually take advantage of it due to the late season. Just finished cleaning and sorting them. I have a lot of freezing and preserving and baking in front of me.

Had a super relaxing morning. Still cleaning up from Burning Man. Not enough hours in the day. Still, can't complain.

How was your day thread (continued) Empty Relaxing

Post  Mrs. Sullivan Sun Sep 14, 2008 6:44 am

I spent a quiet day at home while Mr. S. was at work. Cleaned house a bit, baked some cookies, watched "From Hell" and generally just fooled around home. We had a great time at the Steampunk Tea yesterday evening, made the acquaintance of some new folks (welcome, Dr. Cross & Morgan, Kim & Max!). I'm eagerly looking forward to our outing tomorrow at Laurelhurst Park, and hoping I can get some decent pics with my little old camera!

I spent a splendid day yesterday with a dear friend I'd not seen in months, discovered a lovely ale going by the name of Dragon's Blood then promptly fell over my bootlaces and reawakened my old war wound. Rolling Eyes

On top of that I hobbled home to discover I had smashed my watch up beyond recognition when I fell. Any recommendations where I might get a new and exciting one?

Post  OldProfessorBear Sun Sep 14, 2008 4:58 pm

(AS I was starting to say before Firefox crashed on me ... )

It was a long, tiring, but otherwise fine day.

Arose at 2:45AM (!), pottered around, cut green acetate lenses for my flip-up welding goggles - they worked OK as sunglasses, but aren't very comfortable - needs work.

Took the bus to join the Waltham Safari meetup, met up, observed the exhibits outdoors and in the museum. A whole (sort of) floor was devoted to Waltham watches and watchmaking machinery! HAC would enjoy this, I think.

Then we adjourned to the Watch City Brewing Company for refreshments and good chat, following which we dispersed to our trains, buses and cars.

I went home and rested my feet for less than an hour, then went to the local science fiction bookstore/gaming parlor to spectate the first session of the 1893 Chicago Columbian Exposition RPG - I have never RPGed, nor observed such before. One of the Safari crew was participating. It was all creating characters and so forth, lots of bookkeeping. An hour and a half was adequate to give me a good idea of what was going on, and to flip through a couple of books on the Exposition that the game master had brought. It must have been quite a spectacle! I personally went to the 1964-5 World's Fair, which was big, but this might have been bigger!

At any rate, I was very tired by then, so went home and started to doze off in front of the monitor.

A very full and interesting (if slightly painful-to-the-feet) day.

More here, and photos: http://community.livejournal.com/mass_steam/

as well as other items of interest.

I was just told my last grandparent died and so far I feel nothing. I almost never cry because of sadness and I am fairly sure that maybe a bad thing. Work is staring to amp up and I dread the comming of october but I also look forward to the comradeship that comes with it. I just don't want to come down with the plague that got me last halloween. I need to stick my self in to a project and keep with it because that had always helped keep me happy and motivated in the past. I want to be next weekend all ready so I can go to pirate fest and not worry about things. Today is weird.

Thanks Sir Nikolas. We all knew it was coming but it still feels strange. I don't know how I will respond when the rest of the family shows up. I allways feel so out of place in big gatherings.

See I like those movies but I fully understand that they are silly fluff to rot one's brain for a while. Much like one of my favorites Twister. Now that I think of it I really want the soundtrack to that movie. It has some very good instrumental pieces.

on the return journey the exhaust fell off the car

Spent the day doing nothing much, apart from the housework... currently viewing Ronin and it's awesome car chases

Intended to have a lie in this morning, although they never come to pass, always wake up too early, spent the morning sorting out stock from the craft fayre I participated in yesterday. The aftermath is the only wearing part!

Spent the afternoon clattering the ol' sewing machine, managed at least part of the bottom hem of new skirt, tisk I dont have the patience I once had!

Post  Tanuki Mon Sep 15, 2008 2:46 am

I've felt quite unwell for nigh-on a week now, and today is no different. However, after a nasty and unfortunate bout of Employment this afternoon, I found myself with time to relax in my rocking chair and read the first few chapters of The Picture of Dorian Gray, followed now by a bit of æthertube browsing.

Fortunately, the >80º heat wave the local meteorologist promised for the weekend seems not to have materialized, and thus am I able to wear nice clothing, rather than my heat-combating "nothing plus a bit of thin cloth".
