If you have better tools you can get better results but it might be worth looking at.

Another option is Acrylic paints, you can just paint the design on. If you paint it on in a complementary shade of brown you could easily make it look like it was burned in.

I was thinking of using a soldering iron. The logo I wish to use is this:

I got the bags embossed.

The Inner Flap is also embossed with the smaller logo.

One of the bags has a bad registration on it, so I'm keeping that one, but the other one is available for acquisition.

Now all I have to do, is clean them, dress the edges in black, and then give them a coat of Aussie leather balm.

Just the one to a friend of mine. It paid for the cost of materials. I'm not making any more with the BPRD logo on them.

Leather is expensive these days. You would think with as many cows that are turned into meat, that leather would be plentiful.

With that said, I will be ordering some new leather this week in order to produce some different pieces. I plan to make a pair of boots soon. THAT, I'm sure will be quite an ordeal.

Boots? I'm sure! Good luck with them. Smile

I heard that cattle kept for leather are treated very differently to those kept for meat, and I guess if true they would very well be entirely different breeds. You'd think they'd make cheap leather from cattle slaughtered for meat anyway, but perhaps it might actually be lower quality than plastic imitations.

I should probably look into it. I worked at a meat packing plant for a while in their tannery, where leather hides were processed. Let me tell you, I don't think they treat the cows any differently.

Who would've though that an organization called "in defense of animals" would have a scathing review of the leather business. Razz

Yeah... Imagine that.

Leather all comes from the same places. Unfortunately, it involves killing animals. Tasty Animals.

They don't give any places that I can find a cruelty free alternative to veg-tanned leather for crafts. Sad

Oh well, I guess we're just going to have to keep using the same Indian factory farmed cows then... (Or was it just me that noticed that it started off with how without leather the factory farms would go out of business, and then said that most of the leather comes from China and India and that the cows are so thin they have little meat on them anyway.)

I don't like the idea of animal cruelty at all (but I do eat meat and wear leather), however I think the article was well intentioned but badly written with a definite political intent.
I have every sympathy with campanes against trapping etc but not farming, especially considering EU regulations for animal welfare

Also biologically we are omnivorous, we have to eat some animal products to be healthy (I suspect some eat too much though!)

Actually, after talking to a guy who owns his own leather store, he tells me that all of the leather he buys, comes from here in the USA. Not sure if that helps the folks in the EU, or UK, but I had a feeling we exported a lot more hides than we imported and I was right.

We import a lot of finished leather, but a lot of it originated here in the states where the animals here are treated much better than those in the third world.

If there were a way to create leather without having to kill an animal, I would champion that cause. I'm surprised that the Genetic Research People haven't come up with a way to create cowhide from cloning just the hide!

If they did that, there would be no need to kill an animal for its skin, and... you could literally grow it to the size and configuration you wanted.

Now I'm more confused than ever. Smile As that web page gave no references at all, I think I will file it under fiction.

Being healthier as a vegetarian than I was when eating meat, I will have to disagree with The Kernel. I think some of us were not designed for meat. Fear not, I turned for my health, not for animal rights. I am against cruelty to them, of course, but I claim Benjamin Franklin's argument. As for leather, I have yet to decide. I have yet to find anything as comfortable.

Sorry if I have caused confusion - I said (or at least meant) "animal products" - not neccessarily meat.
You can be very healthy as a vegetarian as long as you eat cheese/milk etc.
The issue is for Vegans who don't eat any animal products at all (and need therefore need specific vitamin supplements which many don't realise are of animal origin, eg B12)
