So, here's the deal,

After the ol' computer caught the techno-zombie virus a while back, many of the more useful programs were lost in the repair process (I still haven't gotten Word back on it). One of the less useful but fun programs was Civilization III: Conquests.

Now my problem is that I have the user code, but only the first (the play disc) and third discs, the second being lost despite my best search efforts. Now I have a friend and neighbor who also has Civ III, and I'm wondering if I can't borrow his second disc and use it to install the damn game on my computer.

But I wanted to ask the advice of wiser men before devoting an evening to installing a game that may or may not work at all.

Any Thoughts?

I would guess that the code should work on any set of disks (I could be wrong) as the code is valid and it's easier to have some mechanism to validate the code then it is to make every single disk different.

Chances are it will work, though I'd suggest either using all 3 of your friend's discs (just in case there is a minor version difference) or comparing your own two with your friend's (look for the small print on the labels). Use your own serial number, of course.

Now, I really know little about how game discs are produced, but I'm pretty sure they are pressed en masse just like anything else. So chances of there being some individual code in there is pretty slim.

The code on your friend's disk 2 should be the same as the one you lost. I would try to reinstall, starting with your disk 1, and see if his disk 2 is accepted.

I'm inclined to agree; likely the best way to find out if it will work is simply to try it. You really can't mess it up, after all; you're trying to install the game because it isn't already there, and it's exceptionally difficult to break something that isn't there.
