One for the gentlemen

Post  Prof_Von_Grumbleflick on Wed Nov 10, 2010 5:02 am

For those who have taken to growing themselves a fine set of handlebars, What is your preferred grooming wax?

Personally, I quite like Mr. Taylor's Moustache Wax (comes in a tube). Its odour is not unpleasant, it has good stiff hold and it washes out cleanly, although you might have to reapply it over longer periods, as once it starts to get disturbed, it loses some of its hold... My brand loyalty is weak though and if you have a firm (get it?) favourite, please share!

Do you prefer sticks, tubes or tubs?

I always used Pinaud Clubman Wax when I could get it. They make a few other gentlemen's requisites... (why do I get a flash of Michael Palin here?) and they are all (or were) quality products. A quick search turned some up at Amazon.

Cheers!

Chas.

i use a number of things. I often use Bert's Bees peppermint lip balm because I have the most horrendously permanently-stuffed nose you can imagine (which is a bane to a windplayer, let me tell you!). I apply a liberal dose and my sinuses are relatively clear for several hours, and also my moustache hairs stay in place reasonably well -- In cooler temperatures without a prevailing breeze (Indoors, in air conditioning, for example), that is.

for relatively-long-term hold (outdoor performances, for example), I tend more toward that blue Bedhead 'punk gunk,' or the Bedhead wax stick for less-stringent conditions. I wish I could find that Pinaud stuff here locally, I hear it's excellent.

Another Pinaud Clubman Wax user here, it's good stuff. Strong, odourless and available in a range of colours.

I tend to purchase it from Amazon as no local places sell it.

As an experiment, I've got a couple of tins of 'Bounder' from these chaps: http://www.mr-wax.com/, though I've not used it yet.

I do keep meaning to make my own wax though, it's not to hard and I suspect it might be fun. The Handle Bar Club have a few recipes: http://www.handlebarclub.co.uk/wax/diy.shtml
