Steampunk Flag Empty Steampunk Flag

Post  Plum Wed Oct 22, 2008 3:53 pm

Having only just noticed the little flag icons under members avatars I pootled immediately to choose the appropriate one for my location. This proved to be rather more than the simple task I anticipated mainly because although I live technically in England I really don't like the English flag as it has so many negative connotations; and I'm not quite close enough to Wales to use the dragon although I am Welsh(ish; its a long story Rolling Eyes ) This led me to thinking...

If pirates and anarchists have flags then I want one too!

Come on you artistic wonders, lets see what you can do. I'm sure it's a subject that has been broached before but I have yet to find it.

I am not artistic enough to draw it, but how about a brass cog over crossed wrenches? And maybe a puff of steam....

You don't want to get too elaborate. It needs to fit into a 32x32px .png with transparent background.

Why thank you Plum! I'm sure your comment warms the cockles my fellow crew mate's hearts as well as my own as it was indeed, home for us. This was the temporary home of the Bomb Bay Tea Company for a week in Black Rock City (aka Burning Man). The flag design on the left is the Bomb Bay Tea Co. logo. The opposing design is the flag for Her Majesties Ship "Victorianna's Revenge" (still missing in action) created by someone who's name I cannot recall (DB help me out on this one!). The flags were sewn by my wife.

Oh heck, that was WAY back in the Victoriana thread. I'm drawing a blank myself.
Home sweet home... Sigh.

Tell ya what ...

Even though it seems a tad futile at this point, what the heck, I'll open a sticky thread for flags to be added to the collection.

Since it can be a little tricky, if you don't know how to make a transparent background, I'll take care of that part.

Instructions will be at the top of that thread.

Microcosm publishing sells a couple of patches with a gear theme, perhaps some of our more artistic members (clearly not moi) may get some flag design ideas from them. markf

You mean the cog and crossed hammers is from Veggie Tales? That's hilarious Laughing

(And also makes nabbing it rather out of the question, sadly.)

I'm rather excited as it goes; turns out our Elementally Powered rig may be getting the go ahead for being steamified for future festivals. My quest for a flag has now become rather more serious; keep 'em coming chaps!

I've no ability to draw it on a computer, but there's something incredibly appealing about the idea of a Canadian flag with a cogwheel where the maple leaf belongs, done in brass on black. Sound good?

Doughnuts are Canadian...

(Actually, that looks like it could have come out of a Great White North skit.)
