I'm trying to find something like this: Help! Trying to find something. Hole-puncher in the UK. It's a device for punching/cutting small holes in metal (1/16" and 3/32"). I can always get the dremel out and use that, but when it's one hole in one small bit of silver, it's a bit of a faff.

Searching for metal hole punch brings up the usual stationery supplies, but nothing along those lines. Anyone got any suggestsions where I can get something like that in the UK from?

Isn't that a hole punch use for electronics projects?

I've never had to need to use one, but I read about them in a book on assembling electronic components into cases and such...You mark where you want the hole, and then punch a hole by twisting the knob.

frost.co.uk have some small metal hole punches. Probably more than you're willing to spend at one hundred and five pounds.

I honestly have no idea, but it does sound like it! Gives me further stuff to feed to Google in the hope it will turn something up Smile

Here's a hole puncher...It's about 25 pounds, if my conversions are correct. I'm not sure if they ship to the UK though, which is where you seem to be.

Here's another, even cheaper, but they also don't expressly say anything about overseas shipping...

Not sure how thick the metal is you're punching through...These might work.

I must say I do like these threads.

Someone pops up and says something along the lines of "Where do I find one of these thingies?" and then indicates some sort of tool for doing some sort of task which is never specified until about half a dozen posts into the thread. By which time, at least five or six different suggestions have been made by usefull sorts as to possible sources/alternatives.

I can't help thinking that if we knew what exactly was being proposed from the outset, then we might be able to be a little more helpful from the word go.

Come on. Jemima, Old biscuit, tell us what you're up to.

Perhaps a small drill would work? Exacto brand makes a very small drill handle and you can buy small drill bits. For thin gauge sterling that needs itty bitty holes, it might do the trick.

I can't help but observe that Ms. Wilson's second link shows a tool so similar to Mrs. Clough's that they might as well be the same photograph.

Are you implying I'm stale or have gone soft in me old age? Harrumph!

It's just for punching small holes in thinnish bits of silver no more than 1mm thick (which will become jewellery components) when it's not worth getting the dremel out to drill a hole.

(which I did say in my original post Razz )

That second one looks exactly what I'm after, thanks! If I can't find a UK supplier (they give the manufacturer's name - hoorah!) I'll e-mail them and ask if they ship overseas!

I say, perish the thought and all that!!

My mention of biscuits was in re their pleasant, sweetly moreish qualities.

Haven't found any punches per se. But these people look jolly useful and they're in Brum.

I'll let you off then, Dr Q Smile

Thank you for that link - it led me to discover I could get a tumbling/barrelling machine far smaller and cheaper than the ones I've seen so far! No more will I have the fun of wondering just where the polishing bit on the dremel has flung a small silver circle. Plus, the dremel doesn't get things really shiny.

And I've found a seller of the punches on the bay that ship to the UK, very much thanks to the links Ms Wilson provided.
