Warning: time wasting ahead....

Post  jringling on Fri Oct 17, 2008 9:28 pm

Pointless link of remote interest

Warning: This is only loosely related to steampunkedness, but I am very bored at work and had the need to post.....
Additional warning: instead of simply posting links, the reader will have to do alittle work...

Go to google maps and search for “Mallow's Bay, Maryland”
With the satellite view on, zoom in on the blue bubble “A”. Zoom in real close and look alittle north of the "A" bubble.
This is the largest ship graveyard in the US. It is the scuttled fleet of wooden ships built for WWI which never saw service. There are afew books on the subject, but a quick google search will provide enough details to peak everyone's curiosity. There are also several photos taken by boaters on www.fliker.com.

I live close to this place, but do not canoe or kayak, so I will probably never visit it.

You know, to a tall ship sailor such as myself, that graveyard is more than a little unsettling!

Very interesting. Looks like a few have become islands!

That is positively spooky. Thanks for sharing that! What a neat bit of trivia.

That is certainly eerie! I counted no less than eighty-four, and that was only what was entirely visible. I'd love to visit this someday.
