tying cravates?

Post  Paul8v on Wed Oct 08, 2008 4:49 pm

I know there's plenty of ways to tie cravates but the only way I know looks pony and doesnt do justice to my lovely cravate. Does anyone know any nice ways that also wont come undone too easily?
Many thanks

Paul

Start holding the cravat in front of your neck, with equal lengths on each side. Wrap it around your neck once, so that you now have equal lengths hanging down your chest. Take up those lengths, and tie them in a loose knot, close to your neck. Now tie the lengths in a loose knot again, being sure to make it in the opposite direction of the previous one (if the left side was on top of the knot, make it on the bottom, etc). Pull it so that the two knots are close together, without joining into a double knot. You now have a traditionally tied cravat.

Other methods are to tie it as you would a different sort of tie - a bow tie, or a standard necktie, or an ascot - and leave it at that. I prefer my cravats tied with a four-in-hand knot, personally. I never liked the look of a thin cravat tied like an ascot, but a wide cravat can be almost indistinguishable, given the right attire.

Found this a while ago. Haven't tried to follow the directions yet, but I am a bit fumble-fingered, and having a diagram might help.

Good luck!
