I've done it myself several times on VW Jettas. I used to drive a Toyota before I understood much about cars, so I couldn't tell you what it should cost.

If it's the whole hub-assembly, it is likely that the bearing mount has been damaged somehow. On one of my cars, I ended up with a bad hub, and no matter how many wheel bearings I put in, the damn thing still didn't work right.

Here's a link to a car repair advice page. Scroll down and you'll see a link to a repair cost estimator.

Good luck!

thank you! im thinking the bearings are ok for the moment... might just need a good dose of grease and ill replace them later... not all together posative. but im thinking....possibly... toyota might have made several years with the same hub assembly. if so i dont think it will be nearly as big a deal. i would prefer to fix it my self (i hate trusting my car to a mechanic!) but im thinking it might require specialized tools that i dont have....

If you have an autozone nearby they will lend you specialised tools for free (I'm not entirely sure on the details of this deal, I think you needed to provide them a deposit and they return it when you return the tool)...

I hope that this helps,

Z.
