I would hazard a guess that Tink's files have been deleted, corrupted, or made unavailable. The domain name is still hers, or at least someones, perhaps the machine all the files are hosted on has become unavailable?

Nah, I allready checked that out, the host server IP is still valid, and other sites running from that server are still functional. Something else is going on.

A look at the google cache reveals little, although there is some oddness...

A google search for "Master Pocketwatch thread" reveals 2 links to the thread, both of which, when clicked, re-direct to the front page.

Does this mean the files are still there?

Not necessarily. Google keeps a cache of most pages, generally several days or weeks old, depending on how long since the search bot has visited. The files may be gone, but I'm thinking it's merely a stuffup on the server's end.

Well, the holding page has given me a little clue - UKREG (the company on the holding page) is actually a subdomain of Fasthosts, who are the hosting company for BG. I'm not sure what's going on, but I wonder if there has been a problem with the hosting subscription / payment?

What's happened this time? Empty Heard from Amanda . . .

Post  vonslatt Fri Sep 12, 2008 4:37 pm

Everyone is fine but BG has hosting issues.

Apparently the hosting company, Fasthosts, has a CPU usage quota that BG has been regularly exceeding and has now been suspended.

Amanda and her technical staff are working on the issue and they thank you all for your concern!

Cheers,

Jake.

What can be done about that? Membership continues to grow, though the last I looked posts were actually slightly down (but probably being viewed more).

I imagine my own methods of browsing are not kind to CPU usage, but I need to do it the way I do because the software doesn't offer a better solution.

Thank you, by the way for posting up Spare-Goggles!

Would it help to have a few back-ups around in case of this? I have spare room on my hosting and no traffic since I haven't put forth any effort to make a real website at the moment. Embarassed

If so, let me know cause I'd be happy to help in this manner!

Well that would explain everything. It makes sense if you look at the traffic for the BG site too : http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/brassgoggles.co.uk

As you can see by the chart, there has been a quite heafty upsurge in the traffic (though this is probably only due to the summer holiday season). Still, I'm guessing BG only has a fairly low quota allowance - that doesnt seem too excessive...

Hopefully things can be sorted out soon enough - though if Amanda has dificulties with the hosting, I may be able to help out (I have professional friends in the business....). I'll need to speak to my contacts first, before I can make promises though. (hell, if only I had a decent pipe to the internet, I could host BG myself - I have an IBM server sitting on the floor right next to me, which would be ideal... Rolling Eyes )

Well it appears my host has adjusted a few things and gave me alot more data transfer... I'll have to double check on that... but if so, if I could get a monthly traffic for brassgoggles, I can verify that my hosting is fine, and I probably can at least set up a secondary if need be... I'm just sitting on no traffic at the moment anyways.
