I bought an Organ!!
And sadly, not a spare body part, but an equally cool pump reed organ, for only $60
It needs a little (understatement) restoration, but I couldn't help myself, owning an organ has been a dream for too long! I will now be able to play menacing music and laugh madly, whenever I want!
Picking it up on Monday, so you will have to wait for pics Already warming up the fingers...

Regarding organs
Will you be placing tulips on your organ? *snickers*
We're looking forward to videos of your menacing orchestrations...

Re: I bought an Organ!!
I have to admit, although it pains me to do so, that I found myself wondering who would first submit to the desire to make a hideous joke about this. Well done, Ms. Maxine.

I don't know if I am being very thick and naive, but I have absolutely no idea what you people are talking about :S

Is it a large organ?

Re: I bought an Organ!!
large enough for me to have to rearrange my room (but not large as in cathedral organ large unfortunately..). I wish I had recorded the instant I told my mother about this purchase. I think the sound could be heard in neighbouring countries.

Re: I bought an Organ!!
Indeed, photos/videos in order.
$60 though? That is a find. Provided you have the knowledge, it's the things you have to bring into working order with both bare hands that become your most treasured possessions. Congratulations.

Yes! *snigger* Show us your organ, Rowan!
Really though, that is brilliant. I agree with Zepherius.
What's the ornamentation like? Will you be keeping us updated with what needs to be done to bring it back up to condition?
Will you name the instrument?

Oh don't you worry, there will be many pics of my organ
Of course I will provide updates, there are few different things to do, including reattaching a pedal, fixing a key that doesn't sound, and making the wood look nice again (plus everything I missed ).

So, how long do you think it will be until you can tickle your organ?

Re: I bought an Organ!!
I assume you have some rugged men to help you move your organ? I know I required three large men to help me just lift my own Organ, Mrs Hawker was most suprised, she has always said my Organ was the largest she has seen but she had no idea it was so large compared to others.

It only took two to lift my meager organCaptain Dave Hawker wrote:I assume you have some rugged men to help you move your organ? Though they were extra rugged...
I have tinkeled around a bit, and I must say it is most pleasurable (to the ears, especially). Uploading some raunchy pictures now!

I eagerly await the pictures of your organ, do not freat about the size. Its not the Size that matters but the melody that you make with it.

Coy shot:
X-Rated tease:
Explicit shot, pulling all the stops out with this one :
Unfortunately it has problems getting it (one of the pedals) up:
The reality of moving an organ this size into your room (notice 17th century chest trying to look bigger than he is):
Now, don't get too hot and sweaty over this, I have something equally as hot to show you soon as well, just you wait

Re: I bought an Organ!!
You may find you can get it up with some forceful pulling, perhaps ask a friend if they can help you with a tug or two.

Re: I bought an Organ!!
I've just bought an organ too, actually, and I was about to post it. Odd, eh?
It looks like this and cost me 150$, but it sounds gorgeous.
What make is yours?

No, no, no – you should work it gently to get it up, otherwise you might damage it!

Re: I bought an Organ!!
Exquisite organ MaggotyAnne! My organ is a Mason and Hamlin.
Ok, I started taking this bad boy apart, quit a feat (quite a jigsaw!), anyway, I have found the bane of the bellows! My question to you good folks is, what is this, and where can I get some more:
It feels sort of like a heavy hessian.

Yes, I could have told you that, and in fact was trying to figure out just how to explain it. Happens I "fixed" one of these (OK, I kludged a temporary fix with some rope) about 50 years ago.
Perhaps something like this could be found in a carpet store?
Or try an upholsterer. I'm sure they use webbing very like this.
Otherwise, material like this must have some industrial application, I would think.

Re: I bought an Organ!!
It appears to be what connects the pedals to the pump that doesn't work.
Reed Organ pedal webbing- 2 inches wide
Connects pedals to pumping bellows.
Used as hinges on bellows also-
Sometimes used to connect pedals to bellows. 451319 in the graphic above DA443 $ 2.00 / foot np
Anything else you'd need would be on that website as well.

Re: I bought an Organ!!
Oh wow, that is perfect! Thank you muchly, I will try and find why one of the keys doesn't sound as well, before I buy anything.
