Nautical ettiquette
When hiring a 'self-drive' Edwardian Launch - or any other rentboat, for that matter, please remember the cardinal rule of esthetics -
PLEASE! Retrieve the fenders, place them inboard and out of the way. This is a pretty little launch, with her lines completely spoilt - this is the advert pic, by the way - by these modern plastic blivets hanging over the sides. Awful - and so easily remedied.
After all, we do have standards to uphold.
Cheers!
Chas.

I'd also suggest that care should be taken to ensure the careful composition of images - As pretty as the boat is the perspectives in that image (or at least how my brain is interpreting them) are causing me much nausea!
Not to mention a nagging fear that there is some non euclidean strangeness going on there and we may all soon find ourselves knee-deep in rubbery blasphemous horrors.

Yeah there is something odd about that picture, think it's something to do with the focus of the boat Vs the island folly - it doesn't look right. I think the boat may have been photoshopped into the picture, or it's been digitally sharpened too much. Something's been tweaked but I can't quite say what. The general photo composition is poor, I agree.
Failure to remove rubber bump-stops... not attractive, but could be worse - at least he seems to have remembered to remove the mooring rope (this time).

Re: Nautical ettiquette
Well, yes... but remember, this is Henley - Hobbs of Henley, to be precise.

One would think they could get it right, if they are going to be taking snaps for their own advert.
Standards. No standards these days, the world is going to rack and ruin. Now in my day, such an offense would get one banned from the Regatta, at the least. Flogged 'round the Fleet, on a good day.
Grump, grump, snarl....
Nurse! My meds, please!
Cheers!

Re: Nautical ettiquette
Is it just me, or does anyone else, whilst focussing on the launch, interpret that island as a low-riding large steamer about to mow it down? Personally I see the concrete wall of the island itself as the hull, the railings around the summerhouse (?) as the bridge wings and the house itself as the bridge and wheelhouse.
Kind of like one of these:

To my eye it looks like the HMS Devastation Disguised as a Riparian Folly!

Re: Nautical ettiquette
Indeed it does! I thought it looked familiar but couldn't place it. No, a Royal Sovereign class pre-dreadnought is definately a more likely candidate.

Re: Nautical ettiquette
The correct hail to this launch would be "Ahoy, sir. Your dirty laundry is hanging out!"
Yes, i agree that island does look a lot like a Mississippi river boat.

This is simply the most awesome line of text I've read in several weeks.
