Moustache Wax
I have grown a young beard that I am starting to feel rather proud of, alas my moustache is not as pointed as I would like with combing alone and still has a few stray folicles. can anyone suggest some Moustache wax I could easily aquire in the U.K?
Would vasaline work? (other petrolium jellies are available) I fear this may just stick in lumps in my facial fuzz.
Many Thanks

Re: Moustache Wax
Back in the day when I used to wax the ole stache, I used Pinaud's wax.
I have no clue whether it is still available.
I would definitely advise against vaseline!
If you cannot locate the real thing, I'd say there's a good chance of finding a recipe for making it somewhere on the ætherwebs. I might even have such a thing in an antient tome somewhere about the place, but finding it is a hit-and-miss proposition.
Failing all else, I'd give beeswax a try. I suspect that's what moustache wax is based on. It is, of course, softer than beeswax, might actually contain a small amount of vaseline, but I don't know. If you were to warm up a small quantity of beeswax in your hand, it might just work.

Re: Moustache Wax
I believe mustache wax may be similar in composition to lip balms, most of which are a blend of beeswax and oil. Perhaps a Chapstick-type balm may do in a pinch?

Re: Moustache Wax
I discovered this while researching the same subject for Mr P's whiskers:

Its well worth perusing some of the magnificent facial shrubbery displayed here too, very inspiring for those capable of growing it.

Re: Moustache Wax
I use some stuff called Sudocreme which I found in a shop in Ireland. Its some sort of hair styling thing, quite sturdy which is what I need for my mustache. Another excellent option is Dax wax, which I've never used personally but many fine local 'staches swear by.

Re: Moustache Wax
Hair wax is sold in lots of stores, I would try that first. Upon checking google i've found a company that sells tubes of real moustache wax for about 5$ each, name of Pinaud-Clubman.
I feel rather out of place on thier website, lacking the ability to use their products.

I was just going to mention the fact that we had some in the house, but I wouldn't put it near my face.

That's the stuff. A tube will last a long time. You will probably also want a moustache comb, BTW.

Yeah, well... thats because the stuff I have is actually called Shock Wave. I believe it was on the same shelf as, or in and around, the sudocreme...

Re: Moustache Wax
Hi everyone, this is my first post, I registered just to answer this post.
I have a handlebar mustache which you can see at my site
Moustache Wax is a thing of the "past"... sorry, I realize I am on a Steampunk site, and that does not sound good.
Moustache Wax melts when it is warm and your points on your moustache will droop.
There is a spiking gel that you can get from Walmart, it is called "Got2b glued" It is about $3-$4.00 a tube. It is white like Elmer's Glue, and even feels like it a little bit.
The directions say to put it on when the hair is wet, but I have found that if you dry your moustache with a blow dryer in the general direction you want it to go, and then blend in the Got2b glued with your fingers and/or a comb, and blow dry it. When it is dry, it will last about 3 days. You can leave it clumped together in a fine point, or after it is totally dry, you can comb it out. It will be fuller but still retain the same shape.
One draw back, conversely as moustache wax melts when it is warm, this one droops when it is wet. If you are going to be in the rain or a misty day, it will droop, but just dry it again, and it is fine. You will have to shampoo this stuff out to get it out of your 'stache

I wonder what shampoo tastes like?
Re: Moustache Wax
Something between new potatoes and the kind of syrup you would prefer not to taste again, I imagine. I will report back with details.

One must know when to keep one's mouth shut.
And rubbing shampoo on your moustache is the best time to do so.

Re: Moustache Wax
I've been experimenting with homemade waxes as of late. I quite recently procured a full pound of beeswax from the local apiary and have had marked success with a simple mixture of 50% wax, 50% petroleum jelly, and a smattering of clove oil for scent. Natural beeswax has enough water in the mix that you can simply melt a lump of it in the microwave and stir in a spoonful of Jelly until it melts and blends with the wax. Then find a suitable container, such as an empty Altoids tin (washed of course) and voila!
