Latest topics scrolling
I didn't even realize it did until I looked at it on my other computer. I must have changed some setting in Firefox that controls this.
Anyway, I found it annoying and distracting, so I'm going to do a poll and ask if it should be shut off. (Incidentally, I just increased the number of topics shown from 9 to 15.)

Re: Latest topics scrolling
I rather like it. It helps me track when a new post appears in a thread I've already checked, since Spare Goggles doesn't preserve "unread" flags from one visit to the next the way Brass Goggles does.

Ditto, also as it seems more difficult to flip back to the index

I fear I must be the dissenting voice here, as I fear that not only does it bother me, it's actually somewhat hazardous to my health. I'm epileptic, you see, and having to read moving text can be a trigger towards a seizure, I hate to say.

Re: Latest topics scrolling
I like it although it would be nice if the box they were in was longer.
However, if it's likely to induce epileptic fits in some people, then I'd sooner it went.

I like it, but I could live without it just as well.

Re: Latest topics scrolling
When not scrolling, the box is longer and contains the full list. I increased the length because I noticed I kept missing stuff that slips off the bottom of the list when I was away. To, for example, sleep, or return library books and do the grocery shopping.
At the moment, it seems to be just long enough for that (15 items listed).
The poll is set for four days, and, oh, yes, you can change your vote (forgot to mention this).
We can try it the other way (i.e., what I see on this computer, non-scrolling long list) and run another poll to see what is generally preferred.

Personnaly I like it (as per my post above) but if it lowers someones fit threshold then it probably would be better fixed, is it possible to do a trial run that way?

Re: Latest topics scrolling
Is there another method by which we can view new posts, or perhaps make the scrolling box optional (or even static with manual scroll bars)?
*Nevermind, answered, and I would have found it myself had I been more observant. In which case I don't care either way as to the scroll box.*

Re: Latest topics scrolling
I always simply click on "View posts since last visit" on the main page to view the newest posts, so I have no real use for it. I don't so much find it distracting as "ooh, moving thing...@.@", though.
Re: Latest topics scrolling
I quite like it as well. Makes for quicker navigation to active threads.
Naturally I am with the crowd who regard minimizing risk to other users, however.

Re: Latest topics scrolling
Why don't we do this, then:
I'll lock this thread and start another poll as soon as I turn off the scrolling.

Re: Latest topics scrolling
Just to say thanks for doing this- I didn't realise you could turn off the scrolling otherwise should have done so right away!
