I need a pattern!

Post  Baron Verndorf on Fri Sep 26, 2008 7:27 pm

Recently I've been teaching myself to sew to greater or lesser effect and have been enjoing it quite a bit. My next step is to throw myself at sewing up an actual artical of clothing for myself! After a bit of thought a waistcoat seems to be a good starting project what with not having sleeves to deal with. So, does anyone have a good starting pattern for a waistcoat that I can use? I'm not to picky about the style but something simple and preferably with lapels (though if they're to difficult to remain simple I'll forgoe them).

The following web page has two basic patterns, with lapels:

Simplicity Vest Patterns for Men

They also have this period style that includes a pattern for a frock coat.

Vest and frock coat

In General, Simplicity is a pretty good pattern to work with.

Good Luck!

My deepest thanks! That was exactly what I'm looking for (though if anyone has any others, especially of the free variety, I'm still open!).

That frock coat and vest pattern is the one I've recently been wearing, and I find it without peer in its value. Truly a wonderful pattern.

I think JoAnnes is having a Pattern sale on Simplicity patterns right now for $1.99 each. Hard to beat that price!
