Mini-documentary on Bartitsu

Post  Spring Heeled Jack on Thu Sep 25, 2008 12:12 am

Bartitsu has been described both as the martial art of Sherlock Holmes and as the gentlemanly art of self defence. It was founded in 1899 by E.W. Barton-Wright, who combined the jiujitsu that he had learned in Japan with various European self defence arts, including a unique form of self defence with a walking stick. After a brief heyday at the turn of the 20th Century it was all but forgotten for a hundred years, but has recently been experiencing a revival.

A new 6.5 minute mini-documentary on YouTube explores the rise, fall and rise of Bartitsu; it's a surprisingly moving story: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tC5O7HV_KY

Yours,
