Lanyards!!

Lanyards!!
Someone had a link to lanyards on BG. Thought I would get my thoughts down here before they all blew away in the winds of Limbo; when I get the chance I will dupe this into that thread.
Pretty fancy colored lanyards, a bit steep though, from a military surplus dealer. C'mon, folkes! You are SteamPunks! You are MAKERS!
is a simple one to make. You can make that! Line is dead cheap, and you can get it in lots of colors.
Here is a good link for some examples. And here are some tutorials. Let's see some fancywork.
Cheers!

Getting right on it...
I made a quick lanyard just now from some cord I had lying around, pictures will be forthcoming in about 12 hours when I get my camera back.
However, I didnt try to learn any new knots from your helpful links, so i'll have to make another sometime after i've learned some new skills.

Re: Lanyards!!
That's okay, Kedric! Glad you took a little inspiration and ran with it. You don't have to go out and learn a new skill set every time you set out to make something.
Good on ya, mate!
Cheers!

Re: Lanyards!!
Well, lots of "nothing fancy" is all that it takes to do most of the larger, more complex projects.
Considering the line you had at the time, that's a pretty good start.
Cheers!

Re: Lanyards!!
Well, i don't know about lanyards, but I have been starting to learn some knots for climbing. My favourite so far is a Prusik knot, let's me climb a vertical rope safely in no time!
In fact, we strung a hammock between two cliffs, about 30 meters in the air, and I Prusik'ed into it. Quite nice up there

Re: Lanyards!!
Didn't James Bond pull out his shoelaces and make a couple of Prusiks to save his life and get into the bad guy's lair (part of lair played by Meteora, one of the best possible locations)? I haven't used those in... oh. Well, it was in a prior MILLENIUM, let it go at that.
I have mostly used knotwork in nautical pursuits, but there are some truly decorative projects... I think I may have to do some more soon. Now where did I lay that marlinspike... IGOR!
Cheers

Re: Lanyards!!
You are correct! Though I am not sure conventional shoe-laces would be long enough to get a knot with enough friction..Bond probably has doubled-up laces just in case
