A good little article, thankyou for sharing ^_^Anders wrote:I'm still not fully convinced as to why it's an equal draw to both genders.
Pretty dresses and fancy clothes and proper gentlemen but also and steam powered behemoth machines covered in oil clunking and clanking and raygunsthats how it appeals to both
Naturally, but can you generalize that statement? I think the assertion in the article is that Steampunk draws both genders because it includes elements that each gender (generally) enjoys individually. You might as well say that since pickles are good and grape jelly is good, that pickles with grape jelly is good. As we all know, the whole is more than the sum of its parts, and there's a special chemistry which makes it so.

Yes, I understand quite well that there is alot more to it all than those few things, I was being a bit stereotypical deliberately
Lets find out

I wish yall would quit quoting that bit about the watches! Every time I had about quit giggling over that line while reading this thread, I would run across that quote and it would get me started up again! lol
Seriously though, that is a great article and humor aside, that was a very good point about how it seems "safer" to the mainstream than goth. While I have never met a goth that I would consider dangerous, outsiders seem to really be wary of us. (Yes, I do have a little gothic streak myself, and yes a preacher can be gothic! lol)
I would also like to concur with the young lad from Vancouver about the age variety of steampunk. This is truly an ageless subculture. (I do hate the term "subculture") Young and old and all between seem to be attracted to steampunk.

Of course! Others might not be quite as enlightened as us, however. I think it's an important characteristic of our little group here, that it's more than the superficial elements which make Steampunk great.
And if you're serious about pickles and jelly, let's at least make it an Electric Pickle!

Come to Portland! We shan't bite. (Unless asked, of course, in which case we'll happily nibble to our hearts' content.)

Portland- regular steampunk activity, lumberjacks, obliging natives AND according to Threads, a fabric Mecca. That's it, I'm packing my bags.

As for finding it on the map it's easy. Look down the west coast of America until you find the Columbia (it's a really big river so it isn't too hard to find). Then go inland from the coast and the Columba goes east... until it turns south... then it turns east again. Portland is on that second bend.
A lot of the countryside around here reminds me of the Borders... but then I would say that.

Used to love pickle slices and grape jelly on crackers when I was a kid.
Go figure.
