Baltimore/DC/NoVA/MD group?

Baltimore/DC/NoVA/MD group?
Is there an extant Charm City (I would prefer City of Ravens, in deference to Poe) Steampunk group? Any interest?
I am outside the city in the nekulturny wastelands, but very close to the electrical carriage network terminus; would like to hear from any interested parties.
I also have a workshop at my disposal; it is over-supplied but drastically under-organized. I might be willing to swap tool access time for assistance in bringing Order from Chaos.
Thanks!

I’m north of Balto, forming a group sounds good, I’m in if we can get a group of sufficient size together. markf

Re: Baltimore/DC/NoVA/MD group?
Very well, then! I would think there would be some sort of group already, but if so my Google-fu is weak; can't find anything on line. I find a few references here and there, but nothing solid.
I would like to have a chance to do a good photo session, if there are enough people interested to make that worthwhile. And we could get the group together for a workshop session if people want to share ideas and swap fiddly bits of brass and gears.
Cheers!

Shouldn't this perhaps be in the Geographical section?

Re: Baltimore/DC/NoVA/MD group?
Hmmm- seems to me that there is no group already rolling; and other than Markf and myself, no interest in the entire DC/Balto area. That's not a good sign.
Well, I will look into venues; we could, for a photo shoot, go to the B&O Rail Museum for instance. I think some of the parks in town might have some good locations, and any restaurant with a big table would be a good place for a brainstorm/design/ideafest.
Of course, an itty-bitty booth would be big enough now.
Any suggestions on a name? Baltimore Airship Society sounds a tad technical. American Steam Militia, Baltimore Corps? No, maybe not...
Help me out here, Markf - I am babbling in a vacuum!

Re: Baltimore/DC/NoVA/MD group?
The lack of bodies interested in a local group may turn around once BG gets becomes fully functional again. In the past when a DC-Metro event was in the cards there scads of many replies, so until our membership gets up to speed the problem may not be lack of interest, but rather MIA members. markf

I agree, when BG gets back up, it may be easier to arrange such a meeting. My wonderful other half and I would love to participate in something, if we have no other conflicts. We reside, part time, in northern VA.
One event we are sure to attend, and of course in full steampunk, is Farpoint, which will be held in Timonium, over Valentine's Day weekend in February.

Re: Baltimore/DC/NoVA/MD group?
I have an idea for a good place for a meetup. There is a Steam Gun in Elkridge.
It is actually a non-working replica made some years ago as a copy of the 1860s original Dickinson Steam Gun (often referred to, improperly, as the "Winans Steam Gun), as seen and summarily dismissed on MythBusters (I think they got it a bit wrong, but they tried). It seems to be on public land, I will reconnoiter and see if it is accessible; will post pictures if I can.
Photoshoot opportunity there and other places, with follow up at the Elkridge Furnace Inn... http://www.elkridgefurnaceinn.com/ Although it seems a bit pricey, the "Lounge with small plate" should be affordable. Looks very nice, and just the sort of place for us.

Looks nice, works for me, but I wonder if an invasion of goggle wearing neo-vics will work for them. Oh well, hell with 'em if they can't take a joke. markf

Re: Baltimore/DC/NoVA/MD group?
To keep this going from BG: We now have people from all around the area, from APG to Northern Virginia to Frederick to Southern Maryland. It was suggested that we have some form of get-together after the first of the year, which seems practical. If anybody has prior commitments in January, please state the dates so we can try to work around.
Annapolis seems to be a reasonable central meeting point, and certainly can meet the period requirements. The Ram's Head Tavern looks good for a place to meet, and reasonably inexpensive for the quality of food. They also are the sort of place where a group of us would be welcome, if not positively un-noticed!
If anyone has any problems at all with these arrangements, or even alternate suggestions, let us know as soon as you can. I would love to have as many of us there as is practical.
Cheers!
Chas.

Re: Baltimore/DC/NoVA/MD group?
For those of you on livejournal, "dcareasteam" has provided a way for locals to link up, though the traffic is very low at the moment. But didn't someone propose a meetup at the Smithsonian on BG? Perhaps that was on the other steamy LJ, "steamfashion."
Erf... i don't know--- I just concluded a very long drive, from Chicago to Alexandria, and my mental facilities are a bit lacking at this late hour.
