In mine; set in the Republic of California.... the Confederacy won the American Civil War (that doesn't mean that they conquered the Union, just that they got to succeed.)... I have a lot of it figured out, (I may write and post a comix story about it later.....), ...

The House of Dead Whores

by

Jaqhama

I knew it was John.

Not at first of course

But as the atrocities continued…I began to suspect.

How many times had he insisted that he could do it?

How many times had he gnashed his teeth and wrung his hands and cursed the fact that the items he needed to complete his experiments were not readily available to him?

It's set in this world, but there are a few major differences:

Major Countries of the World: Russian Empire, Holy Roman Empire (still exists), United Kingdom, Imperial Japan, America, and Australia.

Russia: Russia is pretty much the same as it is in our world, but it now has a booming industrial economy thanks ...

As real a ship known, as can be,

Her story, little known, steeped with tragedy.

It involves all of our usual character preferences, a knife wielding protagonist named Jack, a night-walking count, a great detective, etc., in a power struggle as to whether to open the way for the elder gods to return. Highly recommended because:

a. Good plot.

b. Roger Zelazny
