When we purchased our house 6 or 7 years ago, we loved almost everything about it. Almost. We hated the fireplace. It was BIG--way too big for the space--and made of ugly white bricks (not white PAINTED--both bricks and mortar are white), and the white brick hearth is 9 inches high. Various attempts to improve the looks of the monstrosity included building bookshelves on each side, and decorating it extensively for Christmas and other holidays. Here is a Christmas pic of the fireplace:

Just thought I'd share something I made recently and posted about on another forum;

A battery!

Made from;

Salt

Water

Copper wire

Zinc coated nails

Lolly-ice maker (or popsicle maker for you yankies )

How? In five minutes that's how

Mix lots of salt into hot water so you can disolve more into it, atleast two table spoons to one glass.

I also added acid (vinegar) which increased power a little bit but adding alot of vinegar did not increase it ...

This one is way off center, but does anyone remember the 1970s cartoon movie "Wizards"? If so, would any fans also own an E series sansa mp3 player? I ask because I have etched a decent rendering of "Peace" on horseback? (A fan would know what I am talking about...)

I etched the back cover of mine and it came out pretty good. I thought I could do better and etched the spare cover. Both are about the same, and I only have one player. I am offering to trade the etched cover ...

I have a pair of these:

I intend to turn these into something that could've been from an anime like Devil May Cry, Hellsing or Gungrave. The names I coined back on BG, are for these two I'm afraid I have to admit that I intend to do this for many months, now...

What has me stumped, is that I don't know any good way to extend the barrels, which is something I really want to do. If I keep 'em as-is, well, that's just too boring They need anime-esque trappings

I have had the craziest idea, maybe it only seems so good right now because I'm drunk but I remember having it before I had drink today

Okay my idea is an mp3 player that can play music from floppy disks!

I know I wouldn't be able to fit much more than one short song on each disk but I dont care, all my favorite old computer-made music is short and can be made into high quality mp3's and still only be about 700kb.

Anyway, might it be as simple as plugging an external usb floppy drive ...

I just love joule thieves! No I didn't make a spelling mistake and no this isn't about burgulary!

A joule is a very tiny measure of electricity, and a joule theif circuit sucks out the last bits of power from a run down battery.

They allow you to light LEDs from a single AA battery! No longer do you need 3 volts for one LED, you can use a single 1.5 volt battery! And if you divert the circuit two ways where you would connect the LED you can run two from one joule theif circuit and one ...
