LOL!

It appears a huge manatee crashed into brass goggles, we'll be back once we return to a non-surreal time space Laughing

Still Out...

Post  Geisterlibrarian on Thu Jul 16, 2009 7:44 pm

Noted white text-crawl at 9:45ish EST.

Still there at 1:45ish EST.

Poop.

And rubbish.

And I hope he gets it fixed without it being too much of a headache.

Makes me wish there was anything I could do to help....

Perhaps it's time to look into alternative hosting and forum architecture options for BG?

Its an SQL table problem, from what I can see. Can happen with any forum that uses MySql as the DB engine, so any forum SW (phpbb, etc.) would be subject to the same issues if the DB backend wasn't changed out. Hosting isnt the problem, as the webserver and forum SW is still running, which is why you see the table error message.
I have sufficient access via shell scripts to reset the webserver and MySQL database processes if they hang, but I can't fix corrupt tables.

Cheers

I'm well aware of how forums work, Harold. I'm well aware that the current problem lies in a corrupted database. However, I have been on a phpbb far older than brassgoggles that has never had a database corruption bring the board down. That phpbb is hosted on a computer kept in the admin's basement.

I personally admin a phpbb that has been active for over a year on a bluehost server with no database corruptions noted. It's a smaller board than BG, but a properly updated OS and copy of the SQL server, as well as properly running forum software should prevent database corruptions from occurring. The number of threads here indicating outages of at least a day indicates tha some of these things are not being handled well by either the webhost or the forum software.

Oh dear. Now it has just come up in huge letters '500- INTERNAL SERVER ERROR'. I think the clockwork automaton we use for housekeeping about the place have revolted again...

Ah, well, no offense was meant, but I was unawares of your experience with forum management. We get that comment from a lot of folks, and usually they don't have
forum software or server experience, so a generic answer is always safest.. I also do not know the "nuts and bolts" of how our virtual server is set up on the host, so I won;t even begin to make any guesses..
If you want to chat on wht could be done, to improve service, feel free to email me and we can perhaps come up with something useful to pass up the food chain.

Blast it — BG has just gone 500 on me again.

I shall check back in a quarter of an hour, and if it persists I shall post a message to Harold.

Getting lots of 500 errors, refreshing occasionally works but more often than not brings forth another 500.
